Aris took a seat at my table, and I gave him a polite nod. Despite wanting to think nothing of a damn apple it was the only thing on my mind. He didn't seem to have a motive. He just gave it to me because he wanted to. That doesn't sound right though. People always want something in return even if they don't tell you straight up.

He just seems so trustworthy, likable even. I can't deny that he was starting to fascinate me. It's the way he could say so much in so few words. He could be so hard to read. He was a mystery.

You're getting attached. Listen to you mind.

I felt my hands start shaking as I put my cup to my lips, and this time it wasn't from the coffee.

"You alright?"He asked quietly.

"I'm fine,"I responded.

We sat in awkward silence for a while. Before it became unbearable I decided to try to have a conversation.

"What about you? How are you holding up?"

"Same as everyone else I guess,"He told me.

"Everyone else seems pretty damn brainwashed so probably not."

I saw a small smile on his face, almost unnoticeable but enough to worry me.

"What?"I asked him.

"That's the first time you've ever come close to making a joke,"He replied.

Use your judgement Y/N.

"I don't usually talk to people so it's kind of hard. Not sure if you've somehow noticed by now. I seem like such a social butterfly,"I said, feeling a smile on my face for the first time since I got out of the Maze.

He looked at me with one of his unreadable expressions again sending goosebumps up my arm. What's running through that head of his?

"What?"I asked him again. His face flushed.

"Nothing. You just have a really pretty smile. You don't do it often so it's nice to see,"He answered quickly. I tried to ignore the blush threatening to come up on my cheeks.

"Oh, um thanks."

We sat in silence for the rest of breakfast. Technically, it's more of him having breakfast and me drinking coffee, but close enough. On the way I pretended I didn't see him wrap his apple in a napkin. I know I should feel suspicious and maybe even a little guilty that he was giving his food to me, but deep down I was grateful for him. I was starting to think I could trust him.

What if you're wrong? What is he wants something from you?

I don't think he does. I think I can trust him. After all, don't you need trust if you're partners?

The girls in the room were all hanging out in their own groups. There weren't a lot of girls, but they were all loud. I imagine that is what a normal life is like. I would laugh with my friends, get caught up in boy drama, and go wherever I want at any time. Except I'm stuck in a prison with knowledge that bodies are being rolled into a room, and if I said anything I would be called crazy.
