The bookstore was pretty busy for it being a Monday evening.
Denver had to come into town to go to the feed store, so all four of them had met up downtown. Blythe wanted some coffee, and to walk through some of the shops. It was such a nice evening, and it was nice to break up her routine.
The bookstore had a used book section in the back which was Blythe's favorite. She loved to thrift books for her classroom, and some for herself.
Paxton and Denver had wandered off, but Josiah had stayed close to her.
She pulled a few books from the shelf, handing them to Josiah so she could continue to sift through.
"Good?" he asked when she straightened.
"Yeah, thanks," she smiled, reaching to take the small stack from him.
"I'll hold them for you," he insisted.
They walked back out to the front room. Paxton was buying something at the counter. Whatever he was saying must've been funny because the girl laughed. He was always funny.
Blythe moved closer hesitantly, not wanting to interrupt. Paxton noticed them immediately.
"Hi, guys," he said. "I just bought the cutest sketch book."
He held it up, showing them the bright, patterned cover.
"It looks like you found some stuff, too."
Josiah set down her books as Paxton stepped out of the way.
Blythe hummed in agreement as the girl scanned them individually. "A few for my classroom."
She reached for her wallet, but Josiah already had his card out and ready to go.
"Josiah," she protested quietly.
She thanked the cashier, stepping out onto the street where Denver was on a call.
"I know you don't want me to, but I like to," he said. "I would've bought Paxton's book for him if I was up there in time."
"We're not hanging around you because of your money," Paxton said.
"Which is exactly my reason why I want to," he said.
Josiah rested his hand on Blythe's shoulder. She moved closer to his side, tucking into his chest. It was sad that people used him. He was so sweet.
"Sorry," Denver said, tucking his phone in his pocket. "I'm going to have to go."
"It's okay," Paxton smiled. "It was fun, cowboy."
"Why don't you all come back out to the ranch on Friday and spend the night? We could have the whole weekend together."
"That would be a lot of fun," Blythe agreed.
"It would be nice to have a little more than a few hours," Josiah said.
"I can bring food to cook," Blythe added.
"So can I," Josiah continued. "We can split up the meals."
Denver nodded along. "I'll do breakfast Saturday and Sunday if each of you want to do dinner."
"I'll bring snacks and beer," Paxton grinned.
"Perfect," Denver said.
Blythe moved away from Josiah to Denver, giving him a hug goodbye. She did the same to Paxton, who squeezed her extra tight.
She couldn't wait for the weekend.
