It was a rainy night, the skies crying and screaming in thunder. The streets were as empty as they could get, only a couple of taxis going around in hopes of finding people in need. Xiao Jun watched them do so from afar, glaring at the city beneath him. The company had closed down early for the day, the building free from any living thing aside form him.
"Absurd! Unbelievable!" He couldn't help but roll his eyes at the unsettling old voice, turning his head to face the man behind. "It seems I was not completely alone after all." Enlai raised his hand in frustration, pointing his finger at him in annoyance. "Stop joking with me Jun! I can't believe that you have not given your son a bigger punishment after the stunt he pulled at the event last night! He is as good as dead, and you think that a small beating will be enough to discipline him!?"
Jun raised his brows at him in annoyance. "Do you think a beating will be enough to discipline you?" Enlai showed his teeth between his lips, head sweating from anger. "YOU-!" Jun sighed, hands crossed behind him. "Despite leaving the event, he was still able to contribute to it with the help of his pre-recorded flash-drive. My father used to always work through video-chats, even coming to meetings through a computer screen."
Enlai irked his face despite him having a point. "You say so only when it is in your favour. You hated your father." Jun cleared his throat, now turning around to take a small walk in his office. "I am a businessman. I am allowed to use any means and facts in my defence, isn't that how business works after all?" Enlai shook his head in disagreement. "That is far from the point I am trying to make! You son is simply not fit to be the head of this company, as so he has proven over the years. His efforts are to be questioned even if he does his work better than anyone else. His commitment is all over the place. He is a mess! Even the representatives are questioning if he will be able to dedicate himself to his work completely!"
Jun's eye twitched, beginning to seem a little fazed. "They... have said that?" Enlai scoffed, feeling that he has finally gotten the upper hand. "Of course! You think they'd say that to your face? So you better keep him in check, lower him from his position, or simply discard him FROM his position!"
"You are being absurd! I've heard enough, so leave!" Yet Enlai chuckled. "You say that now but you will be running with your tail between your legs soon. I have already made my son apply for the position that you deem to be so worthy for your son." Jun clenched his jaw as he slammed the table, telling him to leave once more.
As once he finally did, Jun's gaze darkened. "Commitment he says... hah... I'll show him commitment." With that he grabbed his coat and left the building to head back out.
In the meantime, Yibo was still suffering from Mingyu's endless questions, wishing that Zhan's house would show up sooner before them. "Say, what is your favourite food?" Yibo sighed, leaning his head against the cold window. "Pasta. Can you stop with the questions?"
Mingyu smiled, stopping at the red light. He then gave Yibo a glance from the rearview mirror. "Did I ask too much? I just find you interesting is all. Wouldn't you want to get to know me back?" Yibo looked down, beginning to understand his intentions. "Are you... maybe interested in me?"
"Is what I just said." Yibo squeezed his hands together, feeling a little reluctant to ask yet still did anyways. "No, I mean... in that way." Mingyu hummed, tapping on the steering wheel with his finger. "Can I be?" Yibo swallowed, biting the inside of his cheek. "It's... not like I can tell you what to do." The latter then chuckled. "True."
