"We should break up."

He had spoken with a soft voice, eyes pointed down while his hands fiddled under the table. He could feel Li Na's heavy gaze on him, hoping that she'd answer faster. "...I knew you'd say something ridiculous after depriving me of attention for the past couple of weeks." Zhan then looked up to meet her gaze out of curiosity. When he saw that she was unbothered, he was ready to feel a bit relieved, yet what came out of her mouth next made him tense once more. "It's okay to feel guilty... so don't say such absurd things. Just tell me why you didn't show up to our date and... I'll let it go if it's good enough."

Zhan furrowed his brows after thinking for a bit. "No... you don't get it, it's not just the guilt I..." He couldn't help but resist from telling the truth, beginning to feel his heart beat faster. "I cheated on you. On the night of our anniversary... I didn't come because I slept with someone else." Only after saying it out loud to her did he realise just how much of an asshole he was, biting his lip with a bitter face. He had lied about sleeping, but he knew it was just as worse.

Yet all Li Na asked of him was one thing after. "Who is it?" Zhan swallowed, gathering up his courage to look again. "You know him.." Li Na scoffed. "Why- just why him? You were never into men- how would you just- how... how could you do this to me?" Zhan shook his head, indicating that she knew of the answer to that too. "Right... fine, I'll admit that I knew you weren't too interested in me- but I gave in the effort. I liked you even if you didn't- I... told you that I loved you. And... I truly do... but to think that you would do this without even breaking up..." Her eyes had teared, beginning to cry already.

She couldn't help but sob after, sniffling her nose slowly. "I... suppose it's of no matter then..." She did not want to be a burden, let alone lash out at him for breaking her heart. "It's pointless to get angry at you." Li Na's strong attitude was enough to make him feel lost, watching her expression carefully as she raised her head back up and looked him in the eyes. "I hope you won't treat him like you treated me, go behind his back or break his heart. Because if you do, then I will sue you and lock you up behind bars for your whole life."

Breaking someone's heart was not a law, but he knew she'd find a way somehow. But that did not matter the least, because he knew his heart. "That won't happen. I... really like him. It's been too long since I've waited to meet him again. And now that he's here... I will do my best to keep him safe." Li Na's frown didn't last long as she let out a long sigh. "Wang Yibo truly is lucky then. But if you ruined what we have just for a 'like' then I'm not sure how you're planning to handle him at all."

Zhan shook his head, eyes serious. "It's more than that. But I can't say that to you now..." Li Na rolled her eyes as she stood up. "You're being considerate only now? You already stabbed me in the back, broke my heart and betrayed me- yet you think you telling me of your true feelings towards some other person is going to hurt me? Please... you're as much as an idiot as you were in the beginning of our relationship."

She then gave him one last look and turned her head away. "Let's just hope that you will keep your word for him. If you don't... well, then I guess that's on you."

With that, she waked away in her pearl-white heels, leaving a trail of its sounds until the door opened and she disappeared. Zhan sighed at the guilt, now rubbing his face. Just how easy it was to discard someone from your life, yet the memories and the emotions would still be there. He could've wished to forget of it all completely, but knew that it would not be fair to her.

It was sure that she had been strong and understanding as always, yet he also knew that deep in her heart, her cries were louder than the scream of any sea. So what he had to do now was be true to himself like he never had. He had to face things without a mask.
