——— THE GOD WHO LOVED ME ———
❝ I don't know when or how you crept slowly into my life. All I know is that you are everywhere of every hour, of every minute, of every second of my existence. I always seem to get lost in your eyes or within a small memory of how your voice sounds when I'm parted from you ❞
——— THE NEXT MORNING, feeling much better than before, Kaarina went to go see Rune as soon as she could. The Lady's bedroom door was opened, and when Kaarina poked her head inside, she saw her little sister sitting in her bay window, reading a book. Kaarina smiled to find it was one of hers.
She softly cleared her throat and Rune looked up from her book, to find her sister standing in her doorway. "Rina!" she said, jumping up from her spot, "You should not be up on your own—"
"I'm feeling much better," Kaarina assured as she stepped inside the bed chamber, "In fact, I feel more rested than I have in years."
"It has been a rather demanding few years," Rune said, suddenly nervously fiddling with her fingers, "For us both."
Kaarina pursed her lips before saying, "Rune, I know earning your trust again won't be easy. But...I want to try, because...you're my best friend, too."
Rune smiled at her before she said, "When you were unwell, all I cared about was you getting better. But now...I am plagued by questions."
"Ask me anything you want," Kaarina said and Rune nodded before crossing the room, plopping down on her bed.
"Was there...always something between you and Prince Loki?" she asked and Kaarina lightly frowned, "Were you...lying to everyone all along?"
"No," Kaarina shook her head, "I was lying to myself. I truly believed I hated him...and maybe I...did. But that hate...it turned into something...unexpected..." Her eyes glimmered in thought before placing her eyes on her sister again, "Perhaps, there always was something between us, but I didn't know it until it was too late."
"But once you knew, why didn't you say anything?" Rune asked.
"I thought I could...deny what I felt," Kaarina said, "But—"
"They were too strong," Rune realized and Kaarina hesitantly nodded.
And then Rune smiled to herself, "You were wrong about something else," she said.
"What?" Kaarina asked.
"You...still believe in love," Rune said, standing from her spot. Kaarina eyed her suddenly frightened and Rune could see it, "You must stop running from your feelings. Just because Papa always treated you horribly, does not mean everyone else will."
Kaarina stared at her silently, fiddling with her brows as sudden tears clouded her eyes. And seeing this, Rune stepped towards her, "What is wrong?" she asked.
