DEAN

"Any news?" I ask Morales, who's on the other end of the line, closing my office door.

"Nothing." He answers, sounding breathless.

"What do you mean nothing? It's been a week." I growl, irritation flooding through me.

"There's no sign of him, Alpha, it's like he's disappeared into thin air. We found a rogue den and if he was here, he hasn't been in a while." Morales replies. There is only one place Tyler would go if he left Detroit, and that's here. How the hell he would have made it back into the city limits with all the packs on high alert is beyond me.

"Come home."

"Alpha?"

"He's not there. We'll regroup when you get back." A knock at the door pulls my attention from the call. Kyle peeks his head in, concern written all over his face, his lips in a thin line.

"We'll leave in the morning." Morales says.

"Good. I'll see you soon." I hang up, placing my phone on the desk, "What is it, Kyle?"

"Sel- the Luna has been acting strange lately." He says, sitting in the chair in front of me. I could have told him that. She's been through a lot recently.

"Do you have a cause for concern?"

"I- I'm not sure. She's been acting off since she left the pack house. Really quiet, looking over her shoulder more than usual. Almost like she's being followed." My eyes snap to him and everything starts to fall into place. The rogue outside of the café, her wincing like she was in pain when I touched her two days ago, her obvious hiding of something. What if she was being followed? And she's just too scared to say anything.

"Thank you, Kyle." I say, grabbing my keys and rushing out of the pack house. My mind races with the idea of someone hurting her and I wasn't aware of it. Why didn't she tell me? I race down the streets, ignoring lights and stop signs. Stopping in front of her house, I get out and walk to her door, looking around the area before knocking on her door. The soft sound of sobs fills my ears and my wolf whimpers, wanting to comfort her. I knock again, harder this time and all sound ceases as I heard footsteps walking slowly to the door.

"Selene, it's me." I call out. She opens the door and my heart squeezes at the sight. She stands before me, eyes red and swollen from crying.

"What are you doing here?" she asks, looking past me and into the street.

"Who are you looking for?" her eyes snap back to mine before she quickly looks away.

"No one."

"You're a terrible liar Selene." I tell her.

"I'm not lying." She chews on her bottom lip. My earlier irritation returns, and I sigh, taking a step towards her and trying to hide the hurt I feel when she quickly steps away.

"Selene-"

"I can't do this!" She blurts out, running a hand through her messy hair. Ice fills my veins and I take a step back; the words sound foreign to me.

"Do what?" my voice small.

"I can't do this Dean, I mean let's be real for a minute," She points her finger between the two of us, "this isn't going anywhere."

"What do you mean" the sound of my heart beating whooshes in my ears. This can't be happening.

"Selene don't do this." She blinks back tears, her shoulders straight, eyes cold.

"Dean, I don't want this. I don't want to be a Luna. I don't want..." she trails off, taking a deep breath.

"Don't want what Selene?" I feel numb.

"You." She answers, her voice cracking. My wolf howls loudly in my head, my world feeling like it's falling apart.

"You're lying. Tell me what's going on? We can face it together." I plead, grabbing her hand and placing it on my chest, above my crumbling heart. "Selene, I love you." A broken sob escapes her and she leans up, placing her lips on mine, pressing her body tight against mine. She steps back, tears sliding down her cheeks and she looks up at the sky, breathing heavily.

"I'm sorry Dean." She steps back and closes her door, leaving me frozen on her steps.

"Selene." My voice cracking, I knock on her door again, "Selene!" I stand on her porch, banging on her door and calling her name, listening as she cries from inside, gaining the attention of some of her neighbors. "Please." I wipe my face, brushing away tears I didn't know had fallen. My wolf remains silent as I finally stop, sitting down on the stairs, my head in my hands. This isn't happening.

SELENE

My heart feels like it's going to burst out of my chest. I didn't know what else to do, Tyler's threats running through my head. I can't be the reason Dean gets hurt- or worse. I listen to Dean bang on my door a few times, before stopping, the house becoming dead quiet. I curl up on the couch, wrapping my arms around my knees, rocking back and forth slightly. The tears still falling, my chest tight. I hear Dean walking down the stairs and I sit on my knees, peering out the curtain, watching as he slowly walks to his car, his head hanging low. He looks back at me, and I sit back, letting the curtain fall back into place.

I'm so sorry.

Please forgive me.

Dean gets in his car and drives away, taking a piece of him with me. I curl up into a ball and lay there, waiting for sleep to take me.
