DEAN"How are we going to handle this situation Alpha?" Blake Mitchell, one of our Council Members asks me as he and the four other members pile into my office. They are referring to a rogue wolf who trespassed onto our land yesterday, bleeding and severely injured, they think I should execute him, I do not.
"The rogue came here in need of shelter and a doctor I am not going to murder him for that." I tell them, sitting back in my chair.
"If we let every random rogue onto our lands for shelter, what is to stop them from forming an alliance and overthrowing you? We will be destroyed!" Council Member Adam yells. A growl slips my lips, causing all the members to put their heads down, submitting to me. "Forgive me Alpha."
"I am not killing the rogue." Dismissing the meeting they leave, and I sigh shaking my head getting up from my desk and walking to the window on the other side of the room, overlooking my pack.
'James.' I call for my Beta- my second in command through our link.
"Yes Alpha?" He says walking into my office.
"Take a couple of wolves with you and sweep the perimeter, I want to make sure no one is after that rogue." I tell him, feeling a bit on edge. The rogue has been unconscious and, in our infirmary, since he got here it would be silly for whoever was after him to come here wanting to finish the job. They would pay with their lives, but nevertheless I have a pack to protect. It is not easy being a leader to thirty-five wolves, but I did what I had to do.
"Hello son." My father, Cole's voice comes from behind, taking me out of my thoughts. He is leaning up against the frame of the door, arms folded across his chest. Something is bothering him, I can see it in his eyes- there is a hint of a question lurking behind them, but he does not want to ask it.
"Hey Dad, what is it?" I ask him, as he walks into the room, sitting on the couch in the far corner and running a hand through his shaggy brown hair looking at me timidly. I raise an eyebrow at him officially worried. "Dad what is going on?" I ask him as I sit next to him. I take in his appearance, he looks tired, the dark bags under his eyes being a firm indicator of such, and he has lost a little bit of weight, my father is fifty-six years old.
"Dean when are you going to settle down?" He asks me and I now know why he is acting so strangely. We have had this conversation numerous times for the past six months, and it always ends the same way, with me being pissed off. He wants me to find my mate- a Luna to the pack, but he should know that it is easier said than done.
"Dad." I sigh sitting back on the couch, not wanting to have this conversation again.
"Just listen Dean, you have been Alpha now for a year, and you have not even searched for her. We need a Luna; you are doing the best you can, and we are all grateful to you for it, but you cannot juggle two roles at once, you have enough on your plate." He explains, placing his hand over mine. "I am no longer in my prime Dean, I need grandbabies while I can still run after them" He laughs, his whole frame shaking. Well that is a different subject. I think.
"Ok now we get to the whole point of your visit." I say, "I just have not found her yet Dad"
"Go and look son. You will not find her sitting in this office all day." He tells me, standing up and walking to the door. "James and I can watch the pack for a few hours, go for a run later. Think about what I said." He says, leaving me in my head.
'He is right you know. We need to find her.' My wolf says pacing back and forth, restlessly. It has been a few days since he has been out.
