Frantic Search
Jiyeon didn't waste her time in searching her room. She knew that the wallet wasn't there. She tried to remember when she lost it and realized that it might have fallen when she collided with that mysterious boy. She doesn't know why but she remembered his eyes, innocent but she thought that he could be mischievous as well.
Even as she grabbed her jacket to go looking for the wallet, she knew that she might not find it - but she went anyway. Normally she wouldn't have cared, but Seunggi's wallet was not ordinary at all. It was all she had left of him and the guitar pick. The repeated 35-minute ride added anxiety to her already jumbled thoughts. She called Sunmi but she wouldn't pick up. She tried Minho, but he wasn't picking up either. She tried Sunmi again, "Hey Jiyeon - sorry I was in the bathroom, what's up?" Sunmi said.
"Hey, did you see my black wallet earlier? I lost it - maybe I left if behind at the café," she breathlessly said. But deep down, she knew that it wasn't at the café. Somehow she needed someone to tell her that she's going to find it and hoped that it's true.
"Uhm no, sorry - I didn't see it - where are you? What's with the noise-"she cut Sunmi off and said, "It's fine, I just have to do something," she replied. "Thanks, bye" said Jiyeon. "Hey wai-" Sunmi tried calling her but Jiyeon's phone was turned off.
Jiyeon hit the street running. She pulled her hood over her head and ran quickly to the street where she collided with the boy, two blocks over. She was panting hard when she arrived and instinctively knew that the wallet wasn't there either. She felt cold all over and then warm and back to cold all over again. She sat down on the pavement and tried to think about her next move. The wallet didn't have her information on it so how would she find it. She racked her brains for ideas and finally decided to go to Mr. Kim's café.
"Good evening Jiyeon, why are you back so soon?" asked Mr. Kim with a concerned face. "Oh, I'm just looking for something that I lost earlier this evening", she replied. "I see, well, before you continue your search, have an espresso first, it's a bit nippy outside," he smiled. Jiyeon thanked him and sat quietly in the booth, after an hour, she headed out and tried to ask the people on the street if they saw anything.
"I'm an idiot," she said after two hours of futile searching. "Seunggi, how will I ever find you?" her voice cracked but she refused to cry.
She sat down on the pavement and buried her face in her arms.
