Chapter 14: Spaced out
Jiyeon looked at him when she said, ""My guitar, it's a 99' Gibson - it's very - special to me..." she smiled sadly but she didn't cry. His eyes lit up excitedly and he said he had to give her something but he never finished what he was about to say. She felt the cold air rush in, even though they were in a booth that was the farthest from the door. The cafe door was opened all the way and six guys entered. She tilted her head to get a better view, but Jungkook was also turning his head to see, so she only caught a glimpse of them; maybe they were familiar but she didn't see anyone she recognized.
She did notice something about Jungkook, when he was turning, it was as if he sensed them, but it was- she couldn't quite describe it- so she thought that maybe it was just her imagination or that maybe he was still cold. She felt a pang of guilt for using his jacket but brushed it off and sipped coffee. But as she bent her head, Jungkook suddenly shot out of his seat and rushed to the door. She was startled but didn't think anything was weird. She followed him with her eyes and got curious because it seemed that the new arrivals were staring at her - well at least in her general direction.
Before she was weird-ed out from their staring (or so she thought), she decided to look out the window again and forgot about everything for the moment. She flashed back to Jungkook's question about Gibbs, 'I know, I know! I named my guitar - so what' she thought; her day of emotional highs and lows caught up with her. After what happened with her parents earlier in the car and then remembering her wallet's loss, it became too much to process, so she spaced out for a while and only came back to tell him about Gibbs. That's how she copes with issues that she doesn't like - she puts off thinking about it and will address it only if it becomes a problem and continues on even though the issue was not properly resolved.
She curled and uncurled her fingers; and cracked her knuckles because they were becoming stiff with tension. Her fingers were unusually long, for her small frame; which she inherited from her mom but she's happy for them, to play the guitar better. Suddenly she remembered about Seunggi and her heart constricted a bit. She missed him so bad, and now, even the wallet and her pick - was gone. She sighed sadly and looked at the door and was startled to see that Jungkook and the other guys were gone. Uggh, she groaned inwardly. 'I must have spaced out pretty badly that he just left' she thought.
She sighed again and got out of the booth to pay for the coffee. She reached for her purse and exclaimed, "Oh cra- I forgot that I don't have any thing with me" She smacked her forehead pretty hard and winced afterward. She looked at the time and was startled yet again that it was pretty late. She hurried to explain to Mr. Kim about the situation and promised to pay for the coffee next time. She said goodbye and wondered where Jungkook went off to and the six guys that have mysteriously disappeared.
She got out into the cold night and felt like it was going to rain soon. This is bad, she thought. She forgot that all she had on was the dress from the party and no jacket - but she wasn't about to go back in and borrow one - not after owing Mr. Kim money for the coffee. Well of course he wouldn't mind, but she didn't want to bother him anymore so she set out boldly onto the corner to wait for a cab. As she was walking, she felt someone following her so she started to walk faster. She hugged herself to keep warm and mentally prepared to make a run for it when someone grabbed her from behind. She was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace and she felt her fear melt away. His touch was a bit gruff as if he was angry.
She looked up and saw that it was Jungkook.
