Chapter 16 Rain
Jiyeon was so startled when she was grabbed from behind and embraced suddenly; that she didn't even protest. His touch was a bit gruff so that even she can tell that he was angry and she wondered why; so she looked up and asked him, "Why are you angry?" "Are you stupid? Why go out without anything for the cold? You do know the temperature's dropping as fast as-" he spouted off. She was still in his embrace and although she was still cold, her mind couldn't seem to process that because it suddenly stopped working for a second. She looked steadily at him and he held her stare for what seemed to be minutes, but the spell was broken when she shivered involuntarily.
His eyes narrowed dangerously at her and he was angry again. He tried to pull her closer into the embrace but she moved away and crossed her arms in front of her so that he won't touch her again. "Why are you angry?" she asked again. She fought not to shiver again even if she was seriously cold all over. "What do you mean?" he asked, with a confused look on his face. "Just answer me: why are you angry?" she asked through clenched teeth. "I - uh - I was worried that you went out without a jacket and I was afraid that you'd be in this situation - right now - but it's exactly where you - you're smack right in the middle of it" he managed to get angry again at the end of his lecture.
"See - that wasn't so hard, was it?" she asked him. "If you were worried, then you should have said so from the beginning" she continued. "But that's what I said-" his mouth opened and closed quickly as he realized something. Jiyeon's eyebrows rose questioningly at him when he laughed suddenly while rubbing the back of his neck in relief. At that moment, something clicked inside of her, as if in recognition but she didn't realize it yet. She sucked in a breath as she witnessed him laugh, truly laugh; his head thrown back and his eyes disappeared as he did.
The cold fell away and her heart started to do these little palpitations that it wanted to do when she - ugh - she thought. She looked away and the moment faded and she remembered that she was cold again. This time, she didn't even try to fight the shivers that racked through her. He stopped laughing and quickly took off his jacket and gave it to her. By the time she was wearing his jacket, her teeth were clattering loudly. She was so cold that her nose started to run and her hands lost feeling. Jungkook frantically rubbed his hands together to warm them and he enclosed her hands in his to give them warmth. He was shocked at how cold her fingers were and he was afraid that she would get really sick. "I want to go home now" she rasped pitifully. "Hey, let's get you warmed up first" he wanted to get her back inside the cafe but it was a little bit far and the rain had other plans.
The rain fell mercilessly and soaked them both in minutes. Jiyeon just wanted to curl up and die right there on the street; that was how tired and cold she was. She was exhausted physically and emotionally and at that point, she reached an all time low. 'Ugh!' I'm better than this' she tried giving herself a pep talk. Her mind didn't want to give up yet but her body didn't cooperate. The moment she was soaked, what little remained of her positive thoughts, disappeared entirely. She swayed unsteadily and her feet gave out and she fell to the ground. Jungkook reached for her as she was falling and he held her. He cupped her face in his hands and shouted over the din of the rain, "Hey! Jiyeon - don't give up okay? I'm right here! We can do this, okay? I won't leave you!!"
That was the last thing that she remembered before she completely blacked out.
