Arc 2: Night Raven College

Ch5: Lodging

In front of him were rusted metal gates, and in the distance, Andersen noticed a derelict building rising. There were ash-colored pavement stairs leading to the building inside the gate. Andersen is unsure whether the ash hue in the pavement was caused by dust or was natural.

" How are you, Mr. Andersen?"

Crowley inquired as he unlocked the rusted tiny gate that squeaked. It irritated Andersen's ears. Andersen responded, wincing and staring slightly at Crowley.

" Don't you have better accommodations for me? I thought Night Raven College was a prestigious institution."

Crowley responded by crossing his arms.

" Yes, Night Raven College is prestigious, but we have recently been short on funds and have a tight budget; how pitiful!"

Andersen observed Crowley's phony wail. The Night Raven College headmaster did not impress him. Andersen knew the first time he saw him that there was nothing worthy of respect that he could give to this man.

Crowley added, wiping his false tears with a handkerchief.

" Mr. Andersen, am I not the kindest for fulfilling your needed requirements? You have refused to stay with the other professor's dormitory. A place of quiet and solitude where you can live, this is the only place that perfectly fits your description. With a little cleaning and renovation, this place is habitable."

Andersen inquired of the smiling headmaster, his eyes narrowing in suspicion.

" Who will be cleaning this place? "

The headmaster anxiously reacted, sweating under his mask and pretending to laugh.

" Oh, ho, ho, ho! Professors should be setting an example for students, right? I can't afford to spend more- "

Andersen pulled out his black feather quill pen and grimoire. The black feather quill pen's tip was aimed at the headmaster. Crowley replied swiftly, sweating profusely.

" Ah! I remember I remember! Three ghosts are currently residing in this Ramshackle place, and I'm sure you could persuade them to assist you in cleaning your residence."

" In my condition, I stated that I would prefer not to live in a crowded place and would prefer to live alone."

"Ghosts are already dead, Mr. Andersen."

The tip of the feather quill pen began to shine.

" - Please calm down, Mr. Andersen! The dorm is very large and spacious! Those three ghosts haunting the dorm would be useful to you; you have free helpers who I'm sure you could persuade to do your bidding."

The glow on the tip of the feather quill pen faded until it was completely gone. After some thought, Andersen concludes that the headmaster is correct.

Andersen decided that he wouldn't exorcise the three ghosts who remained in the building. It would be quite beneficial for him to get some help. Andersen smiled and gestured.

" Would you like me to be introduced to the 3 ghosts' headmaster?"

" Of course! I am delighted to do so; follow me, Mr. Andersen!"

Crowley was relieved that he was able to reason with Andersen as he led him to the run-down dorm. His new lecturer was difficult to manage. Is hiring him in the first place a good idea?

Crowley has made the correct decision, though, because he does not need to pay Andersen any Madol/Thaumarks.

The Night Raven College would undoubtedly be busy this year with a talented mage from another world (if he believed Andersen) with a sharp tongue and harsh demeanor.

Aside from lodging, Andersen desired a magical mirror.

Crowley couldn't just hand out a magic mirror to everyone, but since he promised, he intended to fulfill this promise. He has a feeling that if he broke his promise, something bad would happen to him. Crowley would also like to see where Andersen intended to put it.

Crowley was positive it would be placed in the town of Ledusberg.

Andersen's final significant request was for the enrolment of one of his wards. Crowley noticed that one of Mr. Ashray's inhabitants was a ghost when he arrived at his home.

Andersen desired to enroll the ghost in his elite academy. The concept was both stunning and ludicrous. There has never been a case of a ghost being a Night Raven College student.

Maybe when the pupil was living, but not after they were dead. The majority of the Academy's staff members are ghosts. Crowley, on the other hand, would never allow them to teach or learn.

Some ghosts can be persuaded, while others cannot. Obsessed ghosts should not be housed at Night Raven College. Crowley was still suspicious of ghosts, which is why there would be no ghost professors at Night Raven College for the sake of the student's safety. Mostly, the Night Raven College's reputation.

A ghost would be a student. It would be the first time it happened if Dire Crowley ever allowed it. Crowley would tolerate it and is ready to create a document for Professor Andersen's ward, Arktis Eis because Professor Andersen pledged to assume care for him.

Crowley afterward left to fetch cleaning materials after introducing Andersen to the three spirits in the shabby building.

When he returned to the run-down dormitory, he was surprised to see that the lounge and entry hall had already been cleaned. The three ghosts were assisting Andersen by shifting stuff, while the new professor was constantly performing charms to clean everything around him. Andersen does not appear fatigued at all.

Looking at the mage stone in Andersen's black feather quill pen, there is no evidence of blotting, which is a comfort. If the new professor is actually from another world, he will remind him that the careless use of magic is always fraught with peril. Exhausting the body's mana to the point of causing death and blotting is dangerous.

But, after notifying his new professor, Andersen was unconcerned about the potential risk of death from mana exhaustion.

"Mana Exhaustion? I may be weak in comparison to others, but when it comes to Mana, despite my lack of strength and power, I am the one who has the most mana out of the servants in Chaldea. My mana parameters are EX. If my container's mana was exhausted, which would be a very rare occurrence with 10 holy grails put into my body, I could simply use the mana from my surroundings."

Crowley doesn't comprehend most of the phrases given by Andersen, but he has a good idea of what Andersen was trying to tell him. But, after digesting the knowledge, he was astounded to hear that Andersen could draw mana from his environment and utilize it to power his magical spells.

What sort of being is he?
