A/n: Just so you know, sense the main story of the first year makes the year go by quick, I'm making the Dumbledore talk in the middle of the first year, so there can be more moments of Mera getting used to the fact she has friends, and Merula slowly turning into a better witch in this au. Plus, I really want to do my idea for the gang's first Christmas at Hogwarts, I ain't spoiling what. Anyway enjoy the chapter!

Mera was heading to the Upstairs Corridor, when she bumped into Mr. Filch.

Mr. Filch: Where do you think you're going?

Mera: ( blankly and calmly, to Filch: ) To a study group, sir.

Mr. Filch: You're Jacob Spelling's sister, aren't you?

Mera: ( blankly and politely: ) Yes, sir.

Mr. Filch: Your brother was one of the nastiest little rule-breakers this school has ever seen. I was sad to see him expelled.

Mera: ( confused: ) You were?

Mr. Filch: I was. I missed my chance to hang him from the ceiling by his wrists. Now I have a second chance with you.

Mera: ( to Filch, politely: ) I'm sorry to inform you, I'm not like my arrogant brother.

Mr. Filch: You're a liar is what you are. Mrs. Norris saw three Slytherins lurking in a forbidden corridor. I'm guessing one of those Slytherins was you.

Mera: ( lying, smoothly: ) I don't have a clue of what you are talking about, Mr. Filch.

Mr. Filch: You won't be going anywhere without me an' Mrs. Norris knowing...

Mera: ( calmly and politely, to Mr. Filch: ) Have you heard of Peeves?

Mr. Filch: Course I've heard of Peeves. Filthy little poltergeist has caused me more trouble than every student together. Why?

Mera: ( calmly and blankly: ) I've heard him talking about sabotaging your office.

Mr. Filch: How?

Mera: ( calmly and blankly: ) I heard him say that he'd set all of the prank items you've confiscated to go off the next time you open your office. I truthfully hope Mrs. Norris doesn't get hurt...

Mr. Filch: Why would he do that?

Mera: ( calmly and blankly: ) Well, you know Peeves better than me, but I assumed it was because he's fond of mischief and chaos. And he hates you.

Mr. Filch: How do I know you aren't lying?

Mera: ( calmly and blankly: ) You can think I'm lying and all, but you'll be taking the chance that he might ruin your office and hurt Mrs. Norris... Or you can stand guard inside your office, so Peeves can't get the best of you.

Mr. Filch: I hate that wrenched little poltergeist... I can't let him harm Mrs. Norris, and damage my office. I keep my favorite chains in there. ( To Mera: ) If I find out you're lying about this, I'll be using those same chains ta hang you by your ankles.
