Mera and Merula went into the corridor to find Penny and a huge chunk of cursed ice. The three of them then see Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape in front of Ben, who was stuck in cursed ice.
Mera: ( thoughts: ) Oh Merlin's beard, Ben is on ice!
Ben: I'm so...c-c-c-c-cold...
Professor Snape: Obviously.
Merula: ( whispers to Mera and Penny: ) There's Ben! Hide!
Merula, Mera, and Penny hid behind the chunk of cursed ice in front of them.
Merula: ( whispers: ) The ice has spread all the way to this corridor...but how did Ben get trapped?
Mera: ( whispers: ) Not important. What's important is getting him out of the ice, unlike what the adults are doing. Snape seems to be more interested in getting rid of the ice than freeing Ben, and McGonagall knows more about the cursed ice than she's telling. This is why I don't fully trust adults.
Penny: ( is impressed ) ( whispers to Mera: ) You can tell all of that from over here?
Mera: ( whispers back to Penny, honestly: ) I am very observant, like how I can tell right now by looking at your eyes that you are still trying to be friends with me.
Penny nervously smiled, as she wasn't expecting Mera to know that.
Merula: ( whispers: ) Why did whoever wrote that note want Ben to come to this corridor?
Professor McGonagall: Flipendo!
Professor McGonagall casts Flipendo on the cursed ice, but nothing happens and Ben is still stuck.
Professor McGonagall: The Knockback Jinx always shattered the cursed ice before, but it seems to have become impervious.
Professor Snape: Incendio would melt it away.
Professor McGonagall: Along with his flesh.
Professor Snape: I never said he would survive ( little did he know that after he said that, Merula and Penny had to hold an enraged Mera with a emotionless expression back. )
Professor McGonagall: The cursed ice continues to spread throughout Hogwarts. Someone has clearly been tampering with the Cursed Vaults.
Professor Snape: It would be helpful if our Headmaster were at Hogwarts, instead of searching elsewhere for answers.
Professor McGonagall: We don't need Dumbledore to safely free Mr. Copper. We will cast Incendio together, but target the ice farthest from the boy's body. Be careful, Severus.
Professor Snape: Fine.
Penny: ( whispers to Mera and Merula: ) They'll take Ben to the Hospital Wing.
Merula: ( whispers, while holding Mera's arm: ) Me and Mera will visit him to find out who sent the note, and how he got trapped in the cursed ice...
Mera: ( Whispers to Merula, sternly: ) No, I will do it alone. I will let you know if I find anything.
( Slight time skip )
Mera was at the Hospital Wing, sitting at Ben's side, who was unconscious. When Madam Pomfrey walked to her with a cup of some kind of orange liquid with some kind of red powder on it.
Madam Pomfrey: ( gives Mera the cup ) Here, dear. I figure you would like to have something to drink, as you have been waiting here for your friend to wake up for hours now.
Mera: ( is too worried to question what the drink was ) ( blankly: ) Thank you, Madam Pomfrey... I'm sorry if I am a bother...
Madam Pomfrey: No, dear, you're not a bother at all. You're just being a good friend..
Madam Pomfrey then walked out of the Hospital Wing and Mera took a sip of the liquid, not minding the strange taste of it.
Mera: ( to the unconscious Ben: ) I'm so sorry I let this happen to you, Ben... Maybe if I could've been more observant, I could prevented this from happening...
( Meanwhile Outside of the Hospital Wing )
Madam Pomfrey was talking to Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, and Professor Flitwick with frown.
Madam Pomfrey: You three do realize even if she is what you think she is, she won't be happy that you invaded her privacy about it if she's not ready to say anything about it. Even I can tell that she has issues with trusting people.
Professor McGonagall: We know, but if what we think is true...
Professor Snape: We need to make sure that she is being taught how to control it properly...
Professor Flitwick: ...and make sure that she's safe within Hogwarts if someone tries to get their hands on her.
Madam Pomfrey: I agree, but if she's not ready to say what kind of witch she is, she may never trust that we just want to help her. ( Sighs ) Now, we must wait to see if she'll react to the potion she drank, if she is what you think she is, she'll be brought in the Hospital Wing for a few days or more, depending on how strong she really is...
