I woke up with the worse headache I've ever had. I looked around and realised that I was at Blake's house and then I remembered everything.
How could I lose control like that? I was thankful Alice wasn't around. It would have been a disaster. Then there was a knock on the door.
"Come in", i said then sat on the edge of the bed. Lily entered, holding a glass of water and painkillers. "Hi there! how are you feeling?", she asked looking concerned.
"I'm ok. Shouldn't you be hating me right now?", I asked making her smile. "No silly. Why should I?", she sat next to me offering me the water and meds. I took them and swallowed without a fuss.
"Axel, you're both my friends and I want to see you happy but what I saw yesterday was Angel doing what you wanted her to do and you not stopping her. What's going on Axel? You can tell me anything, you don't have to hold it in, we're family", she said in a way that made me release a breath.
"I love Angel, so much but I'm scared of hurting her again. I haven't seen her this carefree in a while. When we were together I kept on saying the wrong things every time she went out without me or I saw her talking to another man.
She didn't say it but I knew it bothered her, there are times that we fought and she went to sleep in Alice's room because she couldn't bare staying in the same space as me. That's not how it should be", I said hoping she would understand.
She held my hands in hers and looked into my eyes. "No one is perfect Axel and if that's what you're looking for then you might end up alone. Have you met Blake? The guy annoys me five times a week, his mouth knows no bounds, he almost made my parents break up our engagement because he couldn't shut it and yet I married him", she said with pride making me smile.
"Hey guys, breakfast is ready, wanna come to eat with me?", Blake said looking somewhat excited. He was enjoying being a husband.
"We're coming baby, just a second ok?", Lily said with a huge smile. "Ok, I'll be in the living room", Blake said then left the room.
"So are you going to tell her the truth?", she asked making me think for a while. I had to apologise to Wade, he didn't do anything and I was bound to run into him at some point considering he was Travis' cousin brother.
"Well, I have to apologise to Wade first then I'll talk to Angel", I said standing up. "You need help? with the latter?", she asked making me smile. "No, I'll do it on my own", i said then went to the bathroom and took a shower. When I got out I found Blake's clothes on the bed and I knew it was Lily who left them there for me.
We had breakfast and Leo came to get me. He took me to the penthouse where I changed into a suit and went to face my demons.
I remember walking into Olympia with flowers in my hand, feeling eager to see the woman that meant the world to me and now she probably hates me because I can't seem to make up my mind.
"I'm here to see Bennett. Please inform him, he should be expecting me", I told the receptionist who went forward to making a call and to my surprise, I was directed to Wade's floor.
"Knox, welcome. Can I get you anything?", he asked calmly while directing me to sit. "Whiskey I guess", i said making him smirk. He poured whiskey into two glasses and then sat on the empty visitor chair. "What can I do for you Knox?", he asked then sipped his whiskey.
"I came to apologise for yesterday. I didn't mean to ruin the night with things that are obviously in the past", I said then swallowed hard. "Are they though?", he asked making me furrow my brows.
"Axel, I'm just asking. You and Angel dated for a while and she seems pretty close to your ex and daughter so don't blame me for it", he said making me relax a bit.
"Look, I made my choice and I believe that I was correct and I still stand by them besides, I've never seen her this happy before so I know she's moved on. I'm just taking a little longer to accept it that's all", I said drinking the rest of my whiskey on the go.
"I'm sorry man", he said surprising me. "For what?", I asked making him stand up and bring the bottle of whiskey, he poured some for me and then sat.
"For everything that you're going through. It might sound weird but, I know how you feel. When my wife divorced me and took everything I owned, I thought my life was over and if it wasn't for Travis and his family or Mr. Monroe I would have lost it.
I blamed myself for not seeing the signs and not being there for her when she needed me. It was just a mess but one thing that I learned was to not give up on the people that were with me through it all. That's why my bond with the twins is strong.
What I'm trying to say is that, it will get better but you have to be honest with yourself about what you really want, and no matter the outcome, you'll have closure. This suspense is not good for anyone, not for you, Angel, or your daughter", he said then finished his whiskey.
"Thank you, man, it's weird but I kinda needed to hear that", I said when he was walking me out. We were at the reception area on the ground floor when Angel and Iris appeared as if they were returning from lunch. She was shocked to see me with Wade.
"He comes in peace", Wade said kissing her lips. "Are you sure?", she asked then looked at me. "Yes", he said with a smile. "Hi Axel", Iris said with a smile which surprised me. "Hi Iris, nice seeing you", i said and she nod. "Angel, can I speak with you for a second?", I asked making her look at Wade.
He nod his head making her agree. She walked me to the lounge that seemed to be reserved for guests that were not allowed beyond the ground floor.
"I'm so sorry for how I handled everything and for yesterday. I didn't mean to behave that way", I said making her smile. She reached for my hand and I gave it to her.
"It's ok Axel. How have you been?", she asked sweetly. "I'll be ok, I just... I wish I didn't push you away. It's my fault that we're in this situation", I confessed feeling my chest tighten. "Don't do that to yourself. Can we try to be friends? for Alice and our friends' sake?", she suggested and I had no choice but to accept.
I'd rather have her as a friend than not have her at all. "I'd love that", i said then hugged her with everything I had.
