Backstory: Coming from a large working-class family, Danny was the second oldest of the four children. He is really close to his family, though the same can't be said in regards to his relationship with his younger brother Matt, who drifted towards the criminal side of the business world. He joined the Newark PD and during his time, he testified against his training officer Rick Peterson, under a subpoena during the latter's trial for corruption. Danny was a successful homicide detective with 87 convictions until being transferred to the Honolulu PD. In 2001, he witnessed the murder of his partner Grace Tilwell by a pair of gangsters they had been sent to apprehend, and after barely making it out alive, he noticed the smoke billowing from the old World Trade Center towers and was ordered to assist the NYPD. After that, he moved to Hawaii as his ex-wife Rachel was remarried and moved there with their daughter Grace, who was named after Danny's late police partner, to join her new husband, in order to be closer to Grace. He was given an assignment to investigate the murder of John McGarrett, and that was when he met John's son, Steve. Together, they, alongside Chin and Kono, formed the Five-0 Task Force and quickly gained renown. At some point, Steve was asked to babysit Danny's daughter Grace and it was during this time that Steve showed Grace a news footage of Ian Prince and his accomplishment and this quickly made her a new fan. Ian first met Danny after saving Lou's daughter Samantha from the hacker Ian Wright, and their friendship didn't have a fairly good start due to Danny's negative attitude, though this didn't deter Ian from building a bridge of friendship with Danny. Soon, they slowly started warming up and Ian managed to break Danny's negative and pessimistic view and show him the grounded good side of life. Many years later, Steve and Catherine returned to Oahu and and after a warm homecoming from Five O and the rest of the Ohana, they noticed an ID card on Steve and Catherine's left shoulder and asks them what it is and that's when Steve said: "There's something you should all know and want to hear what we say."
