Backstory: Growing up with a loving family, Junior's family life took a turn for the worse when his sister Maya died in a car crash, an incident that his father couldn't move on. Thus, his father Natano would vehemently oppose Junior joining the Navy, in which he did in defiance. This deepened their estrangement so much, to the point that they were no longer on speaking terms for years.
He joined the United States Navy SEAL and after a few years, he left with the rank of Special Warfare Operator Second Class. Returning to Hawaii, he would stay at a homeless shelter to avoid meeting his father Natano while looking for a permanent job. That was when Junior met Steve McGarrett, a fellow Navy SEAL, who gave him both the job at the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force and a place to stay at. In exchange for joining the Task Force, Junior had to attend and finish the Police academy to be qualified in the Task Force.
At some point during his tenure in the Task Force, Junior was recalled by the Navy SEAL for a hostage rescue mission in Nigeria and was later joined by Steve McGarrett and Ian Prince. Since then, Ian and Junior bonded and formed a mentor-and-student relationship. Ian later joined Junior and Jerry in transporting Junior's late comrade and Ian then became a mediator between Junior and his father Natano, in which Ian succeeded in helping Junior and Natano repair their father-son relationship and they were invited to Steve McGarrett's Thanksgiving dinner. Due to his Navy SEAL skills similar to that of Steve, Ian offered Junior a position in Task Force 'The Disciples' as well as once again working with his Five-0 friends and Junior agreed.
