Backstory: A former Honolulu Police Department police officer who left the agency due to false allegations of corruption, Chin was a security guard when he was recruited by Steve for the Five-0 Task Force. Serving as the team's technical expert, he is seen using the smart board in the office or fiddling with anything hi-tech. Throughout his career, he had to face many obstacles, including the aforementioned false allegations of corruption (later revealed to be his uncle, who did it out of sheer desperation over the expenses of his wife's treatments), the death of his wife Malia at the hands of corrupt ex-HPD cops, and his vengeful and drug lord brother-in-law Gabriel, who was responsible for Chin's father's death. But he managed to pull through thanks to his Five-0 members, his new girlfriend Abby Dunn and his niece Sara. Eventually, he accepted the proposal to run the San Francisco Five-0 Task Force and moved there with Abby and Sara.
Ian Prince met Chin after saving his friend's daughter from the hacker Ian Wright, and the two quickly hit it off due to their detective skill and their "street smarts" mindset. Chin was then given the position with Ian's Task Force 'The Disciples'.
