Backstory: Born into a Yakuza crime family on Oahu, Adam Noshimuri became the head of the Oahu Yakuza after his father Hiro Noshimuri was killed by Wo Fat. From then on, Adam would face many challenges such as his younger brother Michael, whom he killed and thus, forcing Adam and his girlfriend Kono to go on the run from the his brother's loyalist.

Adam would return from exile, engage and marry Kono. Though, that didn't mean that this wasn't the end for Adam's trouble, as once again, Adam would run away from the Yakuza, as he owed a financial debt that he had to pay to distance himself, and Gabriel Waincroft, who stole Adam's money and then paid Adam's debt in order for his cartel to cooperate with the Yakuza. This resulted in Adam facing 18 months in prison before being released on parole.

Upon being released on parole, the Hawaiian criminal underworld was dealt with a devastating hit by a new crime syndicate. Thus, Steve asked Adam to form a special division within the Five-0 focusing on organized crime, and Adam immediately recruited Jessie as his informant. Through that, it was revealed that Adam had a half-sister named Noriko, who was threatening Kono, Chin, Abby, and Sara in order to manipulate him, and with the death of his informant Jessie, Adam was forced to leave the island and thus, the special division was dissolved. What he didn't know was that Noriko was killed by an unknown assailant and a gun used in Noriko's murder was placed in Adam's house to frame him for the murder.

Adam would once again return to the island. As a thank you for everything he has done for the Five-0, Danny, a Five-0 member, offered Adam a spot in Five-0, which he accepted. Adam would learn about the gun and Noriko's murder through an anonymous tip to the HPD, and confronted Tani, his fellow Five-0 member and the person who found the gun, about it. They would later come to a realization that a third party was involved and was trying to frame Adam.

Adam would meet Ian through Kono. At first, Adam was really afraid of Ian due to his criminal past and Ian's knowledge of the Oahu Yakuza's connection with the Ten Rings. However, that fear went away when Ian was sympathetic to Adam and his need of going legit and thus, was never judgmental to Adam. Understanding his trouble, Ian offered Adam a deal: Adam would give away every known associate of the Yakuza, as well as the info on both Gabriel Waincroft's cartel, Noriko's syndicate, remnants of Michael's loyalist force, and Daiyu Mei's syndicate, so that Ian could eliminate them with the help of the Hawaii Five-0 and the HPD, turning Hawaii into a safer place like Chicago. In exchange, he would guarantee his safety and ask the Governor of Hawaii for a pardon.

Seeing the benefits of it, especially now that he could get all the syndicates off of his back without risking his life, Adam immediately accepted Ian's deal, and soon, Ian, the Five-0, and the HPD joined force to wipe the criminal underworld out of Hawaii. Keeping his end of the bargain, Ian petitioned the Governor of Hawaii to pardon Adam Noshimuri, in which it was approved. Seeing his potential, especially with his criminal mindset, Ian offered Adam a position at Task Force 'The Disciples', specifically as the head of the Task Force's organized crime detachment of the Five-0 division. Adam accepted and reunited with his Five-0 family.
