Backstory: Known for being a headstrong rebel girl within her family and her peers, Quinn Liu isn't keen on following the rules and she would find ways and loopholes to get around them. Regardless, she still cares about her family, including her brother Brian, who passed away during his teenager years, and her ex-stepdaughter Olivia.

In order to straighten her out and quell her rebellious mindset, Quinn's parents decided to enlist her into the Army, and that was when she finally found her happy place. She trained hard physically and mentally, while also focusing on her law study. Due to this, she was offered a position as a sergeant in the US Army Criminal Investigation Division and she accepted it.

Despite this, her rebellious mindset is still present and this puts her under scrutiny, where she was threatened with a demotion if she displays insubordination again. She was then sent to Hawaii to apprehend a hitman-for-hire, who took a job to eliminate the Chinese triad leader on the island. There, she met the Hawaii Five-0 Task Force, who helped her apprehend the suspect. She was then offered a place in the Five-0 Task Force, but not before being arrested by military police for money-laundering.

Fortunately, Ian quickly stepped in and offered the MP and the Army CID a deal: if they could give him and Quinn some allotted time, they would investigate the alleged money-laundering scheme and find those responsible for it and the false framing. If they succeeded, then Quinn's position, rank and job would be retained and all charges against her would be dropped. If not, then Ian would let them take Quinn to be trialed, since this was their affair, not his.

The deal was accepted, and Ian and Quinn immediately set off to solve the case. As they were working on the case, Ian and Quinn quickly bonded. Despite her headstrong and rebellious attitude, she felt that she could trust Ian and began opening up to him, including her frustration over leaving her ex-stepdaughter Olivia behind. Ian, in turn, became a brother figure to her, since he could see that Quinn's like his fellow Autobot, Arcee, who also has headstrong and rebellious mindset.

After successfully solving the money-laundering case, Quinn's position, rank and job were retained and all charges against her were dropped. Grateful to Ian for helping her out, Quinn immediately asked for a position within Task Force 'The Disciples', and despite his surprise, Ian decided to accept it, thinking that Quinn, with her mindset, would give out her own differing opinions on important matters, something that Ian needs to consider carefully. Regardless, she remains a loyal and important member of the Task Force, with Ian enforcing a rule that everyone in the Task Force must respect and take other people's opinions into consideration, as it may give them new insights and lessons.
