Backstory: A 25-year veteran in the force, Lou was an experienced policeman and SWAT member, who started his career as an FBI undercover agent in an organized crime group in Philadelphia. After that, he returned to Chicago Police Department as the Head of the Department's SWAT, when he met and bonded with Ian Prince, and Lou began seeing him as his surrogate brother and a part of his family. Not only that, but Lou was one of the few people within the department who knows about Ian's true origin and identity as a robotic alien. This didn't deter him, as Lou saw Ian as a great brother-figure to him. Most notably, when Lou went on a botched SWAT mission, Ian comforted him and got him out of his funk. Later on, Ian suggested that he and his family moved to Hawaii for a change, in which they did. There, after some mental evaluation to see if he was mentally fit or not, Lou then joined the Honolulu Police Department SWAT.
It was during this time that he met the Five-0 and he didn't have the best opinion about them, but then he started slowly warming up to them, culminating in him cooperating with them in saving his daughter Samantha from the hacker Ian Wright, unaware that Ian Prince knew about this and did the job for them. Lou reunited with Ian after that and was overjoyed to see his brother-figure again. After an early retirement from the HPD and later joining the Hawaii Five-0, Ian then approached Lou and offered him a place in his Task Force 'The Disciples'. Wanting to fight alongside his brother-figure, Lou immediately accepted it.
