The brunette teen searched the newly red-headed teen's face tensely, his eyebrows set at their strange behavior. Despite the other's insistence of normality, Colby couldn't shake off the nagging feeling at the base of his neck that something was seriously wrong. It wasn't just Wilbur's sudden hair transformation from black to red that bothered him, though he would remember to ask the other member's of the household in the future if the supposed 'dye experiment' was real, it was the way the other's smile seemed forced and lacked its usual warmth.
Determination becoming the forefront in his brain, Colby called over his shoulder to the hallway beyond Wilbur's closed door where he was sure the blonde twin was lurking, despite the other's earlier words about leaving the two of them alone to talk. Within minutes, Tommy slowly opened the door, worry clearly reflected in his green eyes as he looked between the brunette and his brother. The red-head's distant expression only served to spur the blonde further into the room, who took three big steps and then sat on his twin's other side.
"Wilbur, something isn't right," Colby began, after a moment of tense silence, his voice filled with genuine concern. "When Tommy told me to come over today, I knew something would be wrong. But usually, when somethings bothering you, you talk to us. One of us, at least."
Wilbur glanced at both of them, his eyes clouded with uncertainty. "There's nothing to talk about. I'm fine, really."
Thomas, refusing to accept Wilbur's dismissal, leaned forward, his voice firm yet gentle, his eyes searching his twin's matching green ones. "Wil, we are the two people in the whole world - besides Dean- that know you better than you probably know yourself. We know something's wrong. We can see it in your eyes. Whatever's happening, or whatever happened, you don't have to dela with it alone. That's what we're here for, y'know?"
Wilbur's shoulders slumped, and their mask of indifference wavered for a moment - just a moment. "You wouldn't understand," they muttered, his voice barely audible with the way their body curled in on itself.
Colby moved closer, his voice filled with something a little more powerful than compassion, his hands still grasping the red heads own. "Try me. I know I can never fully understand any of it. But I can damn well try."
A battle raged within Wilbur's eyes, and for a moment it looked as if the familiarness was winning. And then, all at once, it faded, and any progress the two others on the bed had made simply evaporated. Wilbur sat straight up again, and pulled their hands swiftly out of Colby's grasp, their unwavering smile back in place.
Tommy's eyebrows raised, and he made eye contact with the brunette, only to gasp when Wilbur not so gently turned to him. "Wil..." He said, voice breaking off as the other's smile only grew. He scooted back slightly on the bed at the other's expression, swallowing hard and remembering a dark, shadow-infested school hallway.
Despite himself, the blonde reached out, setting a slightly trembling hand on the red-head's shoulder. "Maybe...maybe you don't have the answers, either. But! That's okay! We can find them all together, yeah? You just have to tell us-"
Wilbur's smile widened, but the edge it held sent a shiver down Tommy's back, and he removed his hand almost immediately from his brother's shoulder. "No, Tommy, there's nothing to find. I've already dealt with it, and it's all in the past. It's better if you both just leave it alone."
Colby exchanged a worried glance with Thomas, his own hand coming up to replace the blonde's on Wilbur's shoulder, effectively making the other turn towards him. "Wilbur, you can't keep shutting us out. We care about you. We're here for you, no matter what. We want to help." He said, his voice firm and commanding, a far cry from the shortest's own pleads.
The red-head's eyes flickered, momentarily betraying a hint of vulnerability before his mask snapped back into place. "I appreciate your concern, but this is something I have to handle on my own. Trust me, I'll be fine."
The words felt hollow, devoid of the reassurance they were meant to convey. Colby's mind raced, desperately searching for a way to break through the walls Wilbur had built around themself.
"Wilbur, please," Colby pleaded, his confident voice now betraying his frustration. "You don't have to face this alone. I'm your- your chosen family, Tommy's your goddamn brother- let us help you."
Thomas, his voice laced with a touch of desperation, added, "Wil, we've been through so much together. All of us. We've faced monsters and challenges side by side. Don't shut us out now."
Wilbur's resolve wavered for an instant, his eyes darting between his two friends. But then, with a shake of his head, he withdrew further into himself. "I've made up my mind." They said, and then stood with a clap, the smile again slipping back into place. "Well! I have an internship to get to. You do too, Tommy." They said, tilting their head their twin's direction.
Colby's heart sank, and he ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. At Tommy's questioning gaze, he nodded, motioning for the blonde to follow his brother. For as long as he'd known Wilbur, the brunette knew that pushing them after they'd made up their mind would only serve to make them isolate further. Reluctantly, he stood from the bed, folding his arms over his chest. "Alright, Wilbur. If that's what you truly want, we won't force you. But please remember that we're here for you, always."
Thomas nodded in agreement, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "We love you, Wil. I love you. Please just- just don't forget that."
With a last glance filled with conflicting emotions, Thomas followed Wilbur from the latter's room, the weight of their unspoken worries heavy on his shoulders. He wrapped his arms around himself as he made his way down the hallway, being stopped by a hand placed lightly on his shoulder. He turned around, meeting eyes with Colby who smiled tensely and waited until Wilbur was far enough away.
"This isn't us giving up, okay? We'll find a way to help them. Even if that means spilling everything to Dean and Sam."
The blonde nodded gratefully, reaching up to wipe his eyes with his sleeve, shaking his body out and then smiling up at the other in determination. "Yeah. Yeah, we'll figure it out. We won't let Wil face their 'demons' alone."
