Though I was enough annoyed to kill him three weeks ago, I don't feel the same way anymore. Yet, I am going to treat him rudely.
"How are you?" he asked, placing the fruit basket aside.
"Well, I tried my best to die but the doctor saved me. So… sorry for disappointing you," I was being cold to him in spite of the instructions I have received.
"Anu…" Gautham's aggression was clearly expressed in his voice.
"Can we talk?" Aditya said, looking at people around us. When they were ready to leave us alone, "Is there anything left to talk about?" I said. It's not that I am doing this deliberately but the inner me who is hurt badly wants to ask him why he did all those things to me.
They all left one after the other and Priya also took Vikram with her. Now, it was just the two of us.
"Anu – "
I interrupted him saying, "That day we planned to have a wild night after winning the case, remember?" He didn't say anything. Probably, he chose to stay silent. I continued saying, "I still say the same, Aditya. That night was definitely wild. Getting shot to death. That too from the gun you were holding. And – "
"Anu, I didn't shoot you. I – " he stopped half way. "You know what? Forget it. You are not going to step into my shoes, however," he complained.
"Oh, is it? I have had enough stepping into your shoes," I said.
Giving a minute break, "You don't look good. I will meet you later," he said.
"No, we are not… No, we are not going to meet anymore… No, we are not going to put efforts into sorting our stupid problem… No, we are not going to continue this relationship that is hanging on a fine line… and no, we are not going to explain ourselves. I had enough of this and it would be so stupid of me if I continue this anymore," I vented my anger.
"See, Adi. Maintaining a relation that makes me sad is fine. But maintaining a relation that seizes my happiness is not something I am rooting for. So, please… I beg you to get out of my life," I already started crying, not being aware of it.
Without uttering a word, he left. His heavy stomps and banging the door a bit heavily showed how hurt he was. But there is nothing I can do about it. I gotta draw my boundaries and build the walls so strongly that I won't get hurt anymore.
I just dealt with one problem and another problem came in within no time. "What did you do?" Gautham asked and behind him, Priya and Karthik came.
"What did I do?" I asked not having the foggiest clue.
"He is crying, Anu," Gautham was on the verge of losing patience.
"So what?"
He had a hard time keeping up with my attitude. He muttered a few swear words and stormed out of the room. I looked at Karthik and sighed heavily.
"Ma'am, there is something you need to know," Karthik said and I immediately understood it was about the day I was shot to death. Finally someone is ready to speak about it.
Priya left the room for some reason. It was just me and Karthik being more than ready to have a discussion.
Sitting on the empty chair by my side, "How do you want me to put it? - Okay, so here's the thing. First of all, I want you to acknowledge that Aditya wasn't the one who shot you. He might be the one who held the gun but the bullets weren’t from that pistol. It was his wife who shot you, Ma'am," Karthik said.
Had Aditya or Gautham said this, I wouldn't have believed it. It was Karthik saying it, so I believed him. I was already convinced right at the first statement.
He continued saying, "Ma'am I have been with Roshini and Aditya Sir for more than a month and I know what that guy has been through. He did everything to save you, me and Vikram. As a matter of fact, we were his top priority and then came his child that was growing inside his wife's stomach". After a pause, "However, at the end, he killed his wife, Ma'am," he said and that dropped a huge rock on my head.
My dilated pupils and dropped jaw said it all. I paid utmost attention to him.
"Everything he did was for his child but in the end it was such a mess that he had no other option than killing her".
"Then?" I asked.
"Then what? Me and Gautham Sir took you to the hospital. After that I don't know how he dealt with that".
FUCK! I messed it up again.
"But, Ma'am… Can you imagine killing a pregnant woman who's having an eight month old baby? I mean, do you think he is gonna lead a peaceful life?". He asked and that question hurt me even more. "Probably that is why Gautham Sir wanted you to treat him nicely".
"That person had a very tough life and I am the primary witness of it. One month is all it took for me to realize the kind of life he is leading. I will not ask you to forgive him because you were also hurt. All we ask is to be a bit nice to him," Karthik said.
Taking my palms into his and looking into my eyes, "Let's not give him a reason to die. Let's not hurt that fragile soul anymore. He is more delicate than he seems," Karthik said.
I wanted to erase the last ten minutes in Aditya's life. I was indeed rude to him.
Now, I want to meet him immediately!
