"Are you certain you're okay?"

She eyed Elijah as he was seated beside her, on the couch.

"Yes, I'm perfectly fine," she hastened out a lie and sipped her wine, evading his gaze. "So, your deal with Elena... ensures everyone's safety?"

The Original selected to not comment on her obvious lie; he could clearly see the dark circles that suddenly appeared underneath her eyes, the drops of sweat on her forehead, her trembling hands, her heavy breathing, everything.

"Yes," he replied and glanced at his own glass. "As she holds her end of the bargain and stays put, I shall hold mine and protect everyone from her circle," he shot her a soft glare. "including you."

"And her?" She now did turn to face him. "What about her own safety?"

Elijah opened and closed his mouth many times, silently granting her the response she didn't wish to have.

She chuckled sadly and shook her head. "You do know how to use your words."

"Just please, allow me to explain," he pleaded and surprisingly for him, she did. "I did not mention anything about her safety because, unfortunately, for my plan to succeed, the curse must be broken... which means-"

"-Elena has to die," she finished for him and he nodded with a sigh. "And I presume, that somehow, she knows about this, correct?"

"She didn't make any comments upon it, so... I would assume so, yes. But I assure you, I have a potion in my possession for the last five-hundred years. It will bring her back to life right after her part in the curse is completed."

The Nephilim took a deep breath and laid her head backwards. "Ah, this curse... of the Sun and the Moon." She glanced at him, tiredly yet pointedly. "Very poetic, don't you agree?"

The vampire dodged her stare, knowing exactly what she was implying. "It could be."

Alexandra narrowed her eyes at him before shifting them elsewhere. "You were right, you know."

This caught Elijah's attention and he immediately whipped his head in her direction. "About what?"

"You asked me if I was okay," she looked at the table in front of them. "Truth is, I do not feel quite well. My main symptoms are fatigue and dizziness. I've exhausted myself to the point of fainting these days. So, imagine how exhausting it is for me to make attempts to evade breaking a curse..." She glimpsed at his concerned expression. "that might not even exist."

The half-Cretan anticipated every possible retort of his; all but one.

"You're a very smart woman, Alexandra," he stated with a proud smirk gracing his lips.

She straightened her posture and sat more properly, eyes pleading for reassurance. "So, I was right for having my doubts? There is no curse, is there?"

Elijah leaned forward. "Unfortunately, for Miss Gilbert, there is a curse... just not the one of the Sun and the Moon." Taking heed of her impatience, he continued, "The actual curse is much worse... and dark. Klaus and I faked the Sun and the Moon curse a thousand years ago in order to aid him break his own a lot easier."

Alexandra frowned in bewilderment. "'His own'? Does this mean that... the curse is placed on Klaus solely?"

The Original nodded his head, affirmatively. "Yes, precisely. Klaus has been trying to break it for the last thousand years and your friend now is his only hope."
