Chapter 29: The cost

A week after, shocking news flooded the media as four business companies gone bankrupt one at a time and these includes The Gomez Group, ALS Holdings Inc, Jed Prime Bank Inc and the Mediclub International Hospital.

The CEO of Gomez Group is being arrested due to graft and corruption. The hospital is found using illegal drugs in the new medicine that they were advertising just a few weeks ago and hiring unlicensed doctors and thus, going bankrupt. While Jed Bank and ALS Holdings are both facing a lawsuit of fraud and tax evasion and is now filing for bankruptcy.

How odd.

I don't have a good feeling about this. Something's off.

The Mediclub hospital is run by the Garcias-Drake's family. Andrea is the only daughter of ALS Holdings while Gomez Group is Cassie and Brianna's family business. And Jed Prime Bank is being run by Wyatt's father.

All of them were taken down one by one. I headed straight to dad's study. My heart is pounding so hard, if what I'm thinking is really what's happening... I can't just stand back like this.

"Dad!" I boomed out of the door.

"Raizza." He didn't seem surprised when he saw me. "Ah. Judging by your face, I presume you saw the news."

"Was it you?" I calmly asked.

"Hmm? What makes you think so?" Mom suddenly came in just in time.

"Because this matter is too obvious to be just a coincidence... So, tell me the truth, kayo ba ang may gawa nito?" I gulped hard.

Mom and dad looked at each other until one of them sighed.

"No." Dad responded.

"What?" Tila ay parang nahinto sa pagtibok ang aking puso.

"What do you mean what?" Nagtatakang tumingin sakin si mom. "You're father is still quite weak to supervise the upcoming event layout to even do anything such as taking down other companies."

"So, you really have nothing to do with this?" I studied their expression carefully.

"Wala, raizza." Mom smiled. "But you're right, this not just a coincidence. There's definitely something going on."

I left the room with more questions piling up inside my head. Who could have done this? It's not something that could be related to me because the issue is well enclosed. Kio and emily said they'd keep a blind eye and as for my family, we already discussed to put it all behind.

And there's no way that those four will go running around telling people what they did to me, plus, drake is still unconscious up until now. So, who on earth could have done this?

Hanggang sa pagpasok sa school, I was still puzzled out by the matter that I almost couldn't answer what my professor was asking me.

"What could you possibly be thinking while looking at me awfully suspicious?" Axel spoke after taking his eyes off his laptops monitor.

"You've been weirdly happy since early this morning." I exclaimed, looking at him straight in the eye.

"Hmm? What about it?" He sipped on his coffee. I frowned but then he laughed giving me all the more reasons to be suspicious of him. "What?" He asked again, laughing.

"You're hiding something from me, are you?" I threw my suspicions into words.

"Porket masaya ako, I'm hiding something agad?" Even his smile looks suspicious.

"Well, you could be." Nanliit ang mga mata ko which made him laugh even more.

"I can now hold you without feeling guilty against your family and your parents have approved of me despite of my name and what family I came from..." He shook his head. "How can I not be happy, rai?"
