Chapter 8: When It All Falls ApartBack at the police station, Mona, Jordan, and Bailey are fatigued and furious as they wait in an open interrogation room. Jordan redirects his gaze to Bailey, giving him a displeased expression.
"We wouldn't be in this situation if it wasn't for you snooping around."
He squabbles as Bailey shakes his head, dejected. Mona is deafeningly quiet. Officer Jones enters the room and sits in the chair from the desk. As he folds his arms, he licks his lips and scoffs. "So, who wants to start?" In a mocking tone of voice, he says. Mona glances into his eyes. "Look, we know something about what happened to Tarni, okay?" Please hear us out for a moment." Mona begs while Jones sits silently and unimpressed, his gaze moving.
"Go ahead."
"That night, we suspect Bingo murdered Tarni. He was interacting with a bald man in his mid-30s with a scar on his face when he swapped Tarni's watch pendant, which had been given to her by her family. It's quite valuable, and she dropped it that night at the party as she was being pursued. It had to have been picked up by the killer!" Mona elaborates.
"Go on."
Jones makes a motion with his arm and leans back in his chair. Mona maintains a steady stare at Jordan. Jordan fixes his focus on Jones. "That is right, sir. We've started getting threatening texts from the murderer."
"Where is the proof?"
Jones inquires as Mona pulls up her Nokia phone and shows him the text. Jones reads quickly but does not appear to be interested. "Are you expecting me to believe this?" You could have done this by yourselves."
Bailey smashes his palms against the table. "It fucking isn't! Bingo has a connection with bad people. He tried to shoot Mona before you all arrived." Jones' gaze eventually goes to Bailey. He gives him a speak-for-yourself look.
"Well, we would have seen him take off because Central Park is quite open. He wouldn't have gotten very far."
Mona leans forward in her seat. "Look, if you don't believe us, the evidence is all the cassette tape" Mona yells as Jones carefully removes her damaged cassette tape from his pocket. "You mean this thing?" He scoffs angrily. Mona's eyes become dimmer.
"It is broken. Which means I don't believe it. I'm not going to trust you, especially knowing that you three are so highly involved in solving this."
Jones comments sarcastically. Jordan exhales as they all look astonished. "Are you fucking serious?" Jordan yells. Jones snaps. "Young man, watch your tone. I've had enough of all this nonsense from you all, especially both of you." He gestures to Mona and Jordan. "And, as for you!" He indicates Bailey.
"I ain't buying shit from either of you, especially not with this junkie here."
He leans back in his chair while Mona straightens her posture. "Are you serious?" Jordan yells. "What about the knife? And how is Bingo dealing with an unlawful organization? They intend to tear down McGavin's businesses. And you're simply going to sit there and let it happen?"
