Chapter 12: Left For Sorrow

Mona's POV

On everyone's televisions that Monday morning in the early hours, the news addressed.

"Breaking news: a bomb explosion that occurred late afternoon yesterday, caused the New York Art Gallery to burn down. Many others were hurt, and an 18-year-old, known as Katie Costi-Andrews, a college student, died as a result of the incident. Young college student Cooper Jackson was arrested last night, as he was described for setting off the bomb. He has been taken for further questioning."

That weekday, I attended Katie's funeral. Hanoi Rocks, Million Miles Away' is softly playing in the background. It's heartbreaking to see her sink to the ground as her parents sob together. We've already lost so much. Katie, Tarni, and now Bailey. It shows that nobody is safe.

"Many of the McGavin's industries that late afternoon suddenly caught ablaze, during the celebration with the foundation of the company. Nobody was hurt. Due to the possibility that these burndowns were planned terrorist assaults. Researchers and police are still looking into this matter. Here are the police department's Head Sargent Officer Jones' reports."

Jones takes a breath as he approaches the wooden stand on the television. "Due to the explosion that evening, I was there. We are certain that it was a terrorist strike by an individual, whether it be Cooper Jackson or a gang. Our team will look everywhere to find a way to stop this from happening again. Until further notice, we want all residents to maintain their composure and safety."

He is surrounded by journalists who are brandishing notepads and pens. Saying "Officer? What is going to happen to Cooper? Could he be involved in this attack? What happen to Cooper if it was him?" He ignores them. "Sir?" He picks a young lady wearing flared, dark-brown bootcut pants and a light brown cloak. "What took place with the young pupils that were murdered and vanished previously? What is the outcome of this?"

"Due to the circumstances surrounding Tarni McGavin's death and Abby Thatcher's disappearance, we do not want this to happen again and will take all necessary steps to prevent it. Tarni McGavin's case will slowly continue once we find proper evidence. Police are still searching for Abby, to this day. That will be all."

Now every time, every minute, I watch that lie through the screen. You can see lies gritting in his teeth. Grace, Pogie, and Mona observe him while he speaks through their little box television in the living room.

With wired headphones in her ears, Mona makes her way through the halls of her school while carrying her backpack, skateboard, and cassette tape.

Since Tarni and Katie passed away, prom has been postponed indefinitely. But I can't help but wonder if I was the target of that blast. I saw Abby that night at the Art Gallery, and it felt like I knew Jordan and I, were destined to die like Katie since we know things. Cooper is currently a member of Deadly Skulls. It simply sticks in my mind. She smiled at me as if nothing had happened and then there was an explosion! This can't be just a coincidence!
