Chapter 20: Taken
As Mona sits at her desk, she plays the riff of 'Love Bites' by Def Leppard. She closes her eyes and plucks the thin strings from her red electric guitar, covered in 80's rock band stickers. Her hair, tied in a curly ponytail, took in her breath as she played peacefully. Tarni leans over watching Mona play. She applauds softly. "That was great! Though I hate to be a burden on you, did you finish your Shakespeare assignment?" Mona nods firmly, reaching over for her blue English book. "Of course I did. I am one step ahead of Shakespeare."
"I hate Shakespeare's plays. That's why I played a tree." Tarni scoffs. "Only because you broke your foot. Of course, the teacher had to choose me to play Juliet. I didn't want to kiss Jye, that nerdy, snotty kid." Mona shakes her head. "Well, you should have broken your foot, and then you could have been a tree." Mona starts to exit her room, and Tarni follows along with Pogie from his little bed. "Yeah right." She shrugs. Tarni notices Mona head out the door and grab her school bag. Tarni frowns. "Where are you going?"
Mona glances back at Tarni. "Well, I better drop off my assignment at school. I was thinking maybe we could start some of the things on your bucket list soon. Tarni beams in excitement. "Really?" Mona nods. "Well, maybe not all, but some. Plus, we haven't spent some quality girl time with each other since all this shit has been going down." Tarni cheers with joy. "How exciting! Lead the way." Mona and Tarni head out of the house.

Meanwhile, Jordan, in a white cooking apron and chef's hat, prepares vegetables in the school kitchen. Outside, he notices Cooper out the kitchen window talking to a school counselor. His eyes become transfixed as they widen in concern. Jordan then quickly washes his hands and rushes outside.

As Jordan walks over to him, the woman councilor nods and gives Cooper a pamphlet. "It would be great for you to join the program. I look forward to seeing you," she states and walks away. Cooper looks to notice Jordan, who is behind the counselor. "You're joining the school council program?" Cooper gazes at him and walks over to him. "You can't tell anyone, man. It will look bad on my image." Jordan raises his eyebrows, tilting his head in response.
Cooper nods, lowering his head. "My parents. They told me it was for the best. I came clean about it. Doing drugs, that is, and hanging around bad company. Of course, I didn't say who. They would freak. And I think they won't believe it if I say Henry Thatcher was part of a crooked mafia gang." Jordan nods, folding his arms. "Yeah. I think it's for the best; they didn't know." Cooper grins shyly. "I haven't found out anything new. But your theory is 100% correct." Jordan's eyes widen. "There is someone that Badger and the others are taking orders from."
"How did you find out?" Cooper raises his eyebrows. "I overheard one of the members of the team. He was talking to Badger. They said that Henry would be terminated once the deed was done. Whatever that means." Jordan shakes his head disgustedly. "I don't like the sound of that." Cooper nods. "Yeah. I was going to tell you this at lunch. Aren't you going to tell Mona?" Jordan bites his lips. "Yeah, she's going through a rough patch at the moment." Cooper nods. "I get it." Jordan reaches out for Cooper's shoulder. "Anything about Charlie Foster? The new kid?" Cooper shakes his head in disagreement. "He's in my health class. He seems like a quiet kid. But no, nothing of or about him. I will keep my eye on him."
