Esme's POV

I slid into my room's window, hoping that nobody had noticed that I had been gone all night. I'd ended up waking up at 2pm after passing out at Casey's and as soon as I woke up and realized how late it already was, I started booking it back home. Of course the night before I was supposed to have dinner with Grayson I got hammered and then slept in until an ungodly hour.

I had surprisingly woken up before either of the other guys, but I didn't want to bother them. So I wrote a quick note saying thank you for the good time but I had somewhere to be and that we should hang out again. That night had honestly been so much fun and I was really glad I stayed, but for some reason I felt like I was forgetting something important that had happened.

The end of the night had gotten kind of foggy but one thing I did remember was the sensation of water and the feeling of someone running their fingers through my hair. I found myself playing with my hair as I tried to remember what had happened. I was taken out of my thoughts by a voice coming from the doorway, causing my head to shoot up as I dropped my hands to my sides.

"Where have you been?" Karai questioned.

"No where," I replied, hoping she would just leave it alone. Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky.

"You've been gone all night and almost all day. You look like shit and Grayson's going to be here in just a few hours. You know how important this is for the clan!"

"I'm sorry ok, I was really nervous about everything so I just stayed out a little later than normal. It's no big deal," I said, trying to placate the situation.

"Don't tell me you were hanging out with him," she accused, narrowing her eyes at me, "I thought I told you to stay away from him."

"No, you told me not to tell him anything else about Shredder's plans. Which I didn't. We just hung out. Seriously, what's the big deal?" I asked. Deep down I knew that nothing good could come out of this situation. Even so I couldn't stop myself from going back to him.

"What's the big deal? For one, they're our enemy. Secondly, how do you even know he's friends with you for the right reasons? Maybe he's only hanging out with you so you'll let your guard down and tell him important information," she retorted.

"Raph's not like that!"

"Fine, be that way. But don't be surprised if he drops you once he realizes you're not giving him any more information on Shredder," Karai hissed.

"Get out Karai."

"Esme...," she started, but I quickly interrupted her.

"I said get out." She paused for a moment, shocked at my sudden bluntness before storming out of my room, slamming the door shut behind her.

I let out a frustrated sigh, deciding I would try and talk to her later about everything. But for now, I needed to focus on waking up some more and making myself look presentable.

. . .

I had taken a shower, drank some coffee, and gotten dressed in the outfit I had bought yesterday. Thankfully, with the help of some makeup magic, it didn't look like I had been up drinking the night away. Just in time too, Grayson was gonna be there any minute. A knock came from the door, interrupting my thoughts. Show time.

I opened the door to find Rahzar standing on the other side.

"I've come to escort you. He's already here."

"Lead the way," I replied, trying my best to seem cool as a cucumber. Rahzar started heading down the hallway and I followed after him, feeling the anxiety begin to build more and more with each step.
