"Payne!" Aaron rushed to his side, kneeling by the now unconscious boy. His face was a swell of blood and bruises, and the rest of his body seemed to share the same brutal condition.

"Payne," Aaron repeated again with dread pronounced on his face, his voice choked with worry. All Payne could do was moan, and even just moving his mouth seemed to cause him pain. It meant he was at least alive, though that didn't make Aaron feel much better as the boy had taken a bad beating.

This was what he was afraid of. His biggest fear had come true: That he wouldn't be there for Payne. That Payne would get hurt without him. That he hadn't prepared Payne.

"Payne..I'm sorry.." Aaron lifted the boy, as he suppressed thoughts of his daughter that were once again streaming back.

Aaron carried him, ready to take him home.

Aaron had knocked on the door of Payne's apartment. He stood gravely as he glanced down at Payne's terrible condition. Despite some irregular shifting, he was out cold. When Dolley had opened it, she had immediately gone into panic as her eyes landed on her son.

"What happened?!!" Dolley placed both her hands on her son's face. "Payne?! John?! Who did this?"

Dolley looked at Aaron expecting answers, to which Aaron responded, "I think he ended up with a brawl with some boys from school...I hadn't been there to see exactly what happened."

The two of them took the boy inside, resting him on the couch. Dolley had rushed off to get some medical materials, before immediately returning.

"Oh Payne, why do you do these things.." Dolley's eyes seemed to be seconds away from tears as she had brought out a cloth to begin to clean up her son's face.

Aaron stood behind her watching intently.

"Thank you so much again, I really can't thank you enough at this point," Dolley smiled gratefully at Aaron. "This is the second time you've helped him. And me. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to Payne. Or at least anything worse. Thank you! Can't stop saying it at this point."

"I think you can," Aaron dismissed it with a regretful frown. "I have something to tell you.."

"Mhm," Dolley nodded her head to indicate she was listening.

Aaron took a deep breath as he prepared for what he was about to reveal. He knew it was time to come clean.

"So, I have been teaching Payne karate..and life lessons for the past months...to try and help him.." Aaron confessed, staring at her as he awaited her reaction. "..we didn't think to tell you before, but now I believe would be a good time to know."

Dolley furrowed her eyebrows as she seemed to regard the facts he just shared. She then tilted her head as she then stared into space for a moment. It was clear her mind was at work. She then stood up, "Wait? So you have been teaching Payne karate? Since when?"
