~○Part 1○~

Young Aaron laid his book flat on the ground as the 7- year old picked a spot in his front yard to finally settle down to read.

It was good to get some time away from the house. It was a big house, but within its walls, he always felt trapped like the interior would one day just lock him in. Technically it wasn't even a house, it was closer to being considered a mansion. Despite it being furnished with the allure of wealth, the atmosphere was nothing but pitiful and cold. That was why Aaron liked to get out whenever he could.

He also liked to read, which he did often. It was an easy way to escape...from circumstances that he could barely understand or tolerate.

The yard was quiet except for the chirping of the birds who perched in the trees above, which made it easy for him to sink into the novel like he was diving into another world.

"What are you reading?"

The voice lurched him out of the book, and placed him back into reality. The voice was one he never heard, which made sense because as he looked up, he saw an unfamiliar face was its owner.

In front of him was a young girl, who seemed to be around his age. It took him a while, but Aaron identified her as the girl that had just moved in a few houses down.

Aaron just stared at her, unsure what to say. He hardly interacted with the other kids in the neighborhood...and he was a bit more reserved than most kids.

In actuality, he didn't have any friends.

"Sorry," The girl then apologized. "I probably should have said my name. I'm Angelica, me and my family moved into the house over there-" She stopped to point in a certain direction. "-My mom suggested I go out and meet the neighbors."

Aaron continued to just look at her, until he realized she was waiting for him to speak.

"Oh, um, I'm reading-" Aaron just held up the book cover as an answer. It was the Great Gatsby.

"Am I also gonna get a name?" She then inquired.

"It's Aaron.." He provided after some delegation.

"Aaron. That's a nice name," Angelica complimented.

"Well I didn't pick it.." Aaron muttered back with a shrug. "..thanks though. Angelica is a nice name too."

"I would think so," Angelica then knelt beside him, leaning towards the book. "It's by F. Scott Fitzgerald, right? I'm actually reading that too."

"Really?" Aaron sounded surprised. Being a kid, you usually felt a notion of specialty like you were the only one doing something that it was a rare treat to find someone that shared your interest.

"I really like the book," Angelica admitted, tapping the page.

"Yea, same.." Aaron murmured back, though he still seemed unsure to talk to Angelica. Though at the same time curious. He didn't have any friends, so talking to another kid felt new to him...most other kids ignored him and left him out. Some even teased him.
