Young Alex squeezed the rag, before he applied it against the bookshelf and scrubbed against it.

He moved his hands in a circular motion. A sponge in one hand to add soap, while the rag in his other hand washed it off. He continued this routine until he sighed and just threw the sponge and rag to the floor.

"You wanna tell me when they decided to make child labor legal?" Alex retorted, turning to where his guardian, George Washington, sat behind watching him.

Washington just smiled knowingly. "Trust me. This all serves a purpose."

"Really? Because right now it just seems I'm just serving you," Alex crossed his arms. "I thought you were going to teach me karate. Not make me your personal house maid."

"Trust me, son. You're learning a lot more than you think," George assured him. "Doesn't seem like it," Alex snapped in annoyance. "When am I actually gonna learn karate?!"

"Just get back to work, son," Washington firmly advised, waving his hand at him.

"No, you said you'd teach me karate!" Alex insisted, stepping forward with his arms crossed.

"And I will, just trust me," Washington now stood up, getting into a comfortable stretch.

"Kind of hard to do that when you made me spend the whole day cleaning your shit," Alex was getting more annoyed.

"Language," Washington cautioned, giving him a stern look.

Alex just stood glaring with a pout, his arms crossed.

"Fine, you want to learn karate?" Washington posed the question. "Come here."

Alex trodded over, and crossed his arms with frustration.

"Okay, let's see what you learned," Washington grinned as he stationed his arms in front of him.

Pierre wiped a sweat from his brow, before he continued the grind of waxing the floor. Wax on. Wax off. Wax on. Wax off. He just recycled the motion over and over, the movement becoming ingrained in his mind.

His next task was painting a fence, and it had to be done by moving a paint brush up and down across a fence. He was assigned these chores by Mr Hamilton. Mr Hamilton had invited him over for a training session, but this training session turned out to just be a bunch of chores. Well this sucks.

Pierre made a groan of annoyance, before he continued on with his work.

Outside the backyard had a nice garden, and the sun did a good job exposing all of its best features.

Mr Hamilton had told him the estate had belonged to his former karate mentor, and he had willed it to him once he had passed.

"Thirsty?" Alex came out from behind him with an offer of lemonade and chips balanced on a tray in his hand.

"If you don't mind me asking Mr Hamilton, but when are you going to teach me karate?" Pierre asked as he stopped working.

"Maybe finish painting the fence, then we'll be getting somewhere," Alex responded as he flung a chip into his mouth.
