Everything Gabriel needed was right here. The petite silhouette of his Marie in his arms made him feel taller and stockier than he knew he was. Even though he, of course, still didn't compare to any of the fully formed soldiers, none of it mattered to him.

She had calmed down, thankfully, and was struggling to wipe her face with the blanket she insisted on wrapping herself around. So charming that he only thought of leaning down to kiss her face affected by tears and shame. She would be even more embarrassed, but at least if she scolded him for a while, he would make her forget about everything that made her feel bad.

If only his head wasn't on fire, he could trust himself enough that it was just a little joke.

But he did not trust, no sir.

"The kitchen, right there."

At her soft command, he led her through the gate and looked for a source of water and perhaps somewhere comfortable for them to sit.

"Come on, let's wash your face" they went to the faucet that was exclusive to the most affluent buildings.

It didn't take long for him to activate the mechanism, so she could scrub, almost furiously, until only her flushed cheeks remained. Her hair was still in disarray, framing the soft silhouette of her face like some kind of jewel. Those blue-green eyes were still bright with tears, and her pale pink lips swelled as she squeezed them shyly.

The thought of kissing her was still on his mind, only it wasn't going to be a joke anymore.

"Do you feel better?" He asked, to silence himself.

"Yes..." she whispered. She cleared her throat, that pink refusing to fade from her cheeks "sorry, about all this and...your shirt. I'll wash it for you!"

"Don't worry about that, I'll wash it later, I prefer to sleep without it anyway."

This time, when the blush invaded the feminine face, he knew it was another kind of embarrassment.

"Y-You shouldn't" she pushed her hair back "y-you could get sick... and that."

Aye, if he kissed her now it definitely wouldn't be a joke.

"I'll be fine" His voice came out raspy, so he cleared his throat.

He watched her struggle to keep her hair up, in vain, with the blanket that covered her parting.

Had ladies' nightgowns always been this thin?

Or was it just him, seeing curves where he hadn't noticed before?

"It's been so long, I don't even know what to say" she kept her gaze shyly away, but when her pale eyes returned to rest on him, there was something wild in her shy smile and her careless appearance "only... I'm so glad to see you, Gabriel."

Oh my, another sharper vision that will haunt him at night.

He forced himself to answer her with words instead of rushing at her like the horrible beast he became more convinced he was every day.

"Me too" he clenched his fists on his sides "I'm so happy to see you."

Damn, why did her smile have to turn so radiant at his words, she should be running for her life, away from him.

But he was still a damn selfish being, and she had told him that she didn't want anyone else.

That's not what she meant, you moron.

Shut up!

"This..." she said, twisting her fingers nervously over her chest, "we have a lot to talk about."
