Marie had heard many stories about ancient romances, of those tragic ones that marked history forever, of those that were not destined to be and overcome all adversity, of those so passionate that they even defeat fate... As well as those who are condemned to hell, as a moral for disregarding the rules.

Those, according to her sister, were the most exquisite, the bittersweet.

So this... this is what she meant...

Gabriel's lips were rough when they touched hers, but then he became more and more careful, while she still had a hard time internalizing what was happening. At some point, she just gave up, closed her eyes, and let him lead. Something strange was happening to her body, that heat that her entrails gave off every time she felt so close to him.

In the river, every time he looked at her, every time he touched her, every time she witnessed or imagined his way of moving, his masculine figure forming in front of her. That heat...was raging inside her out of control.

For god's sake! Could she be the same any longer after that?

Whoever crosses that field will be destined for hell.

So... this is hell...

I don't think she wants to go out again.

It was at that moment that she felt Gabriel's body go limp and lose his balance and his forehead landed on her shoulder.

He was on fire.

"Gabriel?" she began to touch his face, noticing that he was having trouble breathing "Oh, my God, you're burning with fever! Why didn't you say you felt bad? Where is the medicine I left you?"

"I already... used it" he answered with a raspy voice.

"Did you use it all? With nothing else? That was only to alleviate the symptoms, not to remove the disease!"

He laughed bitterly:

"It helped me get out of the damn confinement, at least."

"Gosh, look what you...!"

She held him as she could:

"Wait, I'll get help and cold water."

But he was too heavy and she could hardly move him.

"What..." that was Julia's voice "What is happening?"

Looking up, her sister was frozen, covering Anise's eyes.

"Sister, help me" exclaimed Marie "Gabriel... he is not well!"

She snapped out of the shock immediately and reached over to help lift him up.

"Come on, let's lean him against the wall."

They did so and her sister examined him, with the smaller one worried around them.

"Is the hero okay?"

"We must lower the fever" declared Julia "I will go for the herbs."

"He said he was sick before," said Marie, anguished.

"I have heard that it is a typical flu of these seasons, the sooner it is treated, the faster it will improve."

"I will prepare the water for cooking and for his forehead!" Marie also stood up.

"Very well," Julia said, "come with me, Anise."

"He's going to be fine, right?"

"Only if we help him, that's why we must hurry."

As the two girls hurried away, Marie also slipped nimbly by with the bowls of water, one which she put on the fire, and another which she placed beside the young man with a clean cloth, which she took from the shelf she knew.
