No, Gabriel, you didn't dream it.
The words were out before Marie could stop them. At this point she no longer knew what kind of creature had possessed her body, but everything that came from her lips, everything that her hands were doing, everything that she was wanting...
She shook herself mentally, in an attempt to clear the haze that had settled on the sight of her.
Because with the masculine face so close to hers, the icy blue of his eyes glowing, and the brown locks trailing across their foreheads, brushing her cheeks, and the warm breath so close to hers, her ability to conceive any coherent thought had diminished... to nothing.
One of the male hands was still holding her chin, and the other was gently rubbing her back. If he pushed her forward, she could feel the warm skin of his chest brushing against her nightgown, but apparently, out of desperation from whatever had possessed her, or perhaps because she was losing her balance, her hands ended up clinging to the solid sides of the bulky male chest. He had made a strange sound from the bottom of his throat, at that act, and he finished putting his lips on hers.
This would have to be wrong in so many ways, there was no way that something so powerful would look good in the eyes of God, but she couldn't help but give up.
Hesitating at first, she ended up wrapping her arms around his back, and he did the same, pulling her against his chest. Accidentally touching his tongue sent spasms through her stomach, and something ignited further down.
What was happening to her body? And why was she wishing it wouldn't end?
A ruckus was felt in the corridor and they both twitched.
"Gabriel, you bastaaaaard!"
When the door opened, they were already at different ends of the room and he was hurrying to put on his shirt.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Manuel?!" He growled at his brother.
"What are you doing staying alone with a maiden?" He went to where Marie was, who remained with her cheeks flushed, and he took her hands "Are you all right? Hasn't that bastard done anything to you?"
"E-E-Eh..."
A ball of sweat-soaked shirt crashed into Manuel's head, knocking him off balance:
"You take your hands off her!"
"Well, it seems that you're fine now" his brothers and Marie's sisters were crossing the threshold "Nothing like Manuel's idiot, being an idiot and being Manuel, to serve as a measure."
"You..."
"Relax brother, there are worried ladies."
"Hero!" Anisa came up to him "It's so good that you're well now!"
"You gave us a scare" Julia crossed her arms.
"And you... how come they let you be here?" He asked, looking at all of them.
"For the same reason that Marie was able to stay."
Another rattling noise alerted Gabriel, just before a white furball streaked through the door and landed on top of him.
"Ponvi!" Marie ran to try to push the cub away, with which Gabriel was fighting to stop drooling on his face. "I told you, you couldn't be up here."
"Okay, okay, boy, I missed you too, furball... Damn, you've grown too much..." When Gabriel finally managed to push him away, he had to grunt with effort, "and you're heavy, what the hell are they feeding you with?" He rubbed behind his ears, squinting at Marie's pout.
"What did you want me to do? If he's always hungry" she grumbled.
"Marie" he exhaled "you can't just give him food every time he asks for it, you're going to spoil him."
"But... but... how am I going to be able to sleep if I leave the poor boy hungry?"
"That's why he must learn to hunt, which corresponds to him."
"Won't it be dangerous?" Julia crossed her shoulders.
"That, that's it!" Manuel jumped "Have you seen the size of that thing?"
"Ponvi is not a "thing" Anisa claimed before Marie could "he is a good puppy!"
"Even if he behaves" José sighed "his instincts could be a problem."
"Wouldn't it be better to return it to the forest?" Tomas suggested.
"The forest?" Marie was about to panic.
"Good training will be enough" declared Gabriel, and held the animal by the cheeks to speak to it face to face "You did listen, right? Training and we will start a diet, whether you like it or not" he approached to whisper to him, since he saw him suspiciously "You want to stay with mom, right? It depends on you, then."
The cub whimpered, resigned, and Gabriel rubbed his back:
"Good boy."
Tomás approached Julia to whisper:
"I can't help noticing how identified he must feel."
"That's right" she smiled and José, who heard them, rolled his eyes.
Marie's smile was even wider when she reached over to rub the back of her pup, who had already settled in Gabriel's lap, and Anisa was playing with his ears.
"Thank you" she whispered to her knight.
He managed to hold her free hand up in response, out of sight, or so they thought.
"Whoever invoked the curse of the tree is still under this roof," Julia said catching everyone's attention.
Gabriel frowned at her.
"How are you sure?"
"We have been talking while you rested" Jose explained, "fortunately this situation brought us all together and we were able to reflect on the events."
"The teachers kept us on the sidelines," said Tomas "but we have noticed curious details that at the time, meant nothing, but once we put the pieces together, we have formed several theories."
"I didn't know you were involved in this" the young gentleman continued with half-closed eyes.
"Correction" exclaimed Manuel "you didn't want us to interfere because you're such a stubborn person and you want to do everything by yourself!"
"But no one can do anything alone, right?" Julia raised a hand in his direction "And we were all involved at the moment when our home was attacked."
"And we don't know what will come next" Tomas did the same "so we must be prepared and find the summoner before the consequences turn out to be worse."
"You can snarl at us all you want, brother" José gave him a sly laugh "with or without you, we are going to find the real source of the curse and do whatever it takes."
"That, that's it!" Manuel also crossed his arms.
Gabriel kept looking at them all, suspicious, but Marie held his hand tighter to get his attention.
"Gabriel," she said softly, "don't you think that if we all look into the abyss together, we can be strong enough to prevent it from consuming us?"
The expression the warrior returned, and then shared with the golden eyes of the cub, which was also watching him.
Finally, he snorted with disgust:
"So be it" and he looked up in a chilling way "let's find the scum and make it pay."
