Time passed and everything took its course. Not like the routine had changed much, but the way it had been set up was quite pleasant, at least for Gabriel. Training, escorting the ladies, training with the wolf, and quality time with Marie, although instead of the river, they found other places to talk alone.
Everything was so quiet that may hardly notice that there was a possible murderer under their roof. It's not as if they had lowered their guard at some point, that's precisely why they took turns to keep them safe while they simultaneously investigated and in recent days they had spied on the movements of their teachers. The only thing they had not yet managed to do was circumvent the security of the ruins, since the more they became more flexible in their building and had the support of Sister Lucrecia, the tighter surveillance became in the areas surrounding the complex.
Gabriel knew that it was just in those areas where they had to search, but it had taken him and his brothers to find the appropriate moment.
Meanwhile, the days slipped by as lightly but as vivid as the wind. And that little problem that he had had in the absence of his maiden had been, although not substituted, overshadowed by another.
"Have you already noticed the idiot face that seems to have stuck permanently to your face?"
"Manuel, how many times do I have to tell you... leave him alone, or don't you value your neck? Believe me, when he reacts, neither Tomas nor I will intervene."
Gabriel continued to ignore them, too absorbed in his thoughts to care about anyone's gossip or even his own food. Which, in fact, should have been cold by now, barely touched.
Since he was still remembering, as usual, the last talk he had with his maid. Ever since he had told her how much he liked her loose hair, she had begun to trade in the usual braid that maidens had to wear, for lovely hairstyles that let her dark waves sway in the breeze.
So when he showed up that afternoon, he was greeted by those waves and her radiant smile.
"You came early, Gabriel!"
That spell was enough to make him forget why his temperament had been on the point of exploding not long before. Thus, in response, his expression brightened as well.
"We finished earlier."
And thank heavens, otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to come.
"Today was also a difficult training session" Her voice sounded worried, while he greeted the wolf as he sat next to her, at the base of the tree.
"Nothing new" he rubbed the white fur and then looked at the young woman sideways "I must assume that you slipped back to look, right?"
She pouted and raised her forehead trying to maintain her dignity in the midst of her blush:
"W-What did you want me to do?" I've heard the rumors about how rigorously they're handling apprentices, and you're getting more exhausted every day." Her face contorted with regret "No matter how much you try to hide it, there is no way that I don't notice..."
He leaned down to take the female hand that held tightly the thick root. She turned so that their gazes met and he ended up putting his forehead against hers. Eyes closed, he breathed in deeply, filling his soul with her scent.
"G-Gabriel..." She let out the sweetest breath.
"So warm" he did the same, and he could swear that the heat was rising on the feminine cheeks.
"I-It's just..." she stammered, leaning against him, "it's... spring... and that..."
"Does that explain why you smell like wildflowers?"
