"Are you ready, Julia?" Marie asked for the umpteenth time.
"A little more than when you asked two minutes ago" she snorted "and she stops biting your nails or they'll start to bleed."
Sister Lucrecia stood in the middle of the room:
"The soldiers are already in their places, it's time for us to move."
She bent over the tiles and rubbed them, looking for the slip in the relief. By actuating the mechanism, the surrounding blades began to descend to create a spiral-shaped staircase.
The young women's gasps filled the room, but Sister silenced them:
"Come on, quickly! Julia, how much longer?!"
"Shaking me is not going to make me finish faster!"
"So, yes, she is a sorceress..."
"I don't want murmurs!" cried the woman "If you want to live you will follow orders and leave the questions for later."
They advanced in silence, but Marie refused to leave her sister, and Gabriel was also taking a risk by protecting them.
"Marie" Anisa sobbed "let's go, please, I'm scared. Let's go Julia."
A ruckus was heard in the hallway and panic set in.
"Quick now!" Lucrecia encouraged them.
"Ready!" Julia got up and grabbed her little sisters "Let's go down, now or never!"
A feminine scream excited them.
Huge dark claws had curled into the doorway of the hall. When that humanoid bat head appeared in the doorway, Marie froze from head to toe.
Dark claws. Howls. Fangs. Blood.
Julia pushed her out of her reverie down the stairs.
The thing jumped after them and they screeched as they ran. Halfway there, something whistled above them and it was the creature's turn to shriek.
"Run!" Gabriel yelled from the door, swinging his whip from side to side.
They did not stay to watch as Gabriel threw the fall of his whip and it coiled around the creature's neck:
"You're not going anywhere!" He growled, pulling it back with enough force to crash it against the ground.
Worried for him, but aware that there wasn't much she could do, she ran with her sisters to the bottom of the stairs and they took the narrow, dark corridor and headed for a complex of tunnels.
She couldn't look back, even if it broke her soul, she had to continue.
But the horror before them paralyzed them all. One of those creatures was in front of them, hissing, as if it had been waiting for them.
Shrieking, the girls scattered, taking different paths between the cavities. Marie could see that one of them hadn't been fast enough: the thing caught her by the neck and the last thing that stayed on her mind was her blood drenching the agonized scream of that sister of hers.
More of Marie's nightmares ripped through her, only this time, they were becoming real.
She couldn't move.
"Come on, Marie" Julia urged her "she can't no longer be saved, we must take advantage and hide."
But her trembling did not leave her.
"Come on, Marie, let's go!" Anise yelled.
But they couldn't move her. Even if they ran, they would reach her, they could smell them, they were lost... those demons... There is no escape.
