The main halls of the castle remained desolate and decaying. But, compared to where they had been before, the calm they gave off was refreshing. As a knight, Gabriel had defeated vampires, and every other creature that dared get in his way in that vast hall. The warriors who had reached it had done the same or had died trying. During his transformation, he had fed on whatever creature he found, and at some point he had let them choose: servants or dinner.
Now, arm in arm with his Marie and at a brisk pace, they did nothing but enjoy the gloomy sight. The scruffy curtains were thrown wide open, letting the moonlight drench them, and the withered gardens outside were visible.
"I'm sorry that the decoration is not to your liking, dear" he committed, casually "but, it is the calmest place, far from that hell of the dungeons. Besides, you haven't given me time to clean up."
She had to laugh, despite herself.
"More than any decoration, I'm more concerned that they don't attack us. In fact, I'm surprised nothing turned up, even though we're so exposed."
"Oh, don't worry, it seems that the beasts have decided" the next thing he growled at the shadows "to get into their own business."
Thus the crawling sounds, to which he issued the warning, receded.
This time, her laughter sounded like a joyous hope in that inhospitable place, and that echo must have reached his heart as well, perhaps because of his connection with that fortress.
"Gabriel, you try too hard to show off the best of your ancient home."
"If there is someone who can see light in the darkest places, it is you, my love."
Marie looked away with sudden regret:
"You were supposed to be able to leave this castle, once your memories returned, but..."
He stared at her, her pain affecting him.
"But" she continued "I guess some ties are just hard to break."
The vampire's gaze alternated between the beautiful female face and their entwined fingers, where both rings brimming with magic were exposed.
"It's true" he said "you, for instance, should have walked away from me the first chance you had, when we were still young."
He knew the moment she turned, intending to argue.
"Still" he interrupted her before she had a chance "here you are, holding my hand, even after all."
"That's different," she exclaimed.
"Is it? My journey into the abyss turned me into this, what now? You and our son have once again moved my heart in another direction. This castle demands that I not abandon it, because its existence depends on mine. But in the end it is just a reflection of its master."
He knew what his beloved was thinking, before she said it out loud:
"The table in the back, at the window of the library."
"As a creature of chaos itself, change begins here." He took her hand and brought it to his strong chest, where a strange throbbing was hidden.
The feminine gaze traveled between her hand and his face:
"Is there such a hope?"
Dracul smiled at her.
"You want to try?"
Before she could respond, he swept her up into his arms and wings of shadow emerged from his back. A double jump propelled by those wings took them to the upper passage, past the huge armor-like statues. With another leap, he glided to the outfield. This area was a death trap at best.
He confidently set her down, however, and took her hand, moving between the massive walls of sparsely trimmed and mostly withered shrubbery. She followed him, a little nervous, but he didn't let her get away from him.
"Where are we going?"
"Look forward."
Indeed, ahead of them emerged what must have been, at one time, the most beautiful area of those gardens, with its pillars, statues and pergolas, only now they were all in ruins, and ivy encroaching everywhere.
"What is this...?" Marie admired those around her, as usual, finding some kind of charm in this God-forsaken place.
"It is for you."
He dug his claws into the palms of his hands and spilled fine streams of blood into the offering basins on either side of the great gate. The liquid would slide off, activating the mechanism which, in turn, would activate the protective barrier. No one without authority could pass through it.
"For me?"
"You can use the spell we share to access any area that only the Master is allowed. Now, I have restricted this area, no creature could get close without suffering the consequences, you can use it at your leisure."
"Ga... Gabriel..." Her eyes were shining, her hands clasped on her chest.
"In our home, we made our own garden, because you always loved plants, since we were children, you did nothing but talk about your gardening classes, and how you wish you had some for yourself, but the Sisters wouldn't let you. You showed me some what you secretly took when we talked in our river clearing."
Marie's eyelids had moistened, and she smiled so widely that her cheeks ached:
"Ponvi was with us back then."
In a red cloud, he took form in front of her to take her hands.
"I can't help but wonder if it was a coincidence that our son's spirit creature was a wolf." He approached to whisper "Although I also have a theory that he inherited it from you, my wild mate."
Their lips were about to meet, even brush, when Dracul raised his head.
"What's going on, dear?"
"Alucard."
"Trevor?" She gasped in panic.
"We must go" he held her with both arms and spread his wings.
To where the smell of their son's blood came from.
I absolutly love writing their scenes, soft scenes, spicy scenes, their casual chats and disagreements, how they tease each other, these chapters are for them to set up the bases of their marriage, both in past and present...
AND GO KILL THAT BITXH THAT HURT ALU KYU!!!
