Unlike the Toymaker's Theater, the place where they appeared remained worn, and decaying, perhaps the closest thing to hell Marie had ever seen, and the sweat that was beginning to drench her was from more than just the lava steam rising from the dungeons walls.
"Everything all right, dear?" he asked in her ear, genuinely concerned.
She nodded:
"I'll be fine, it's just the heat."
She caught a glimpse of one of the armored jailers approaching.
"Do not worry" he raised his cloak in the direction of the creature "I'll take you to a cooler place when we finish here" a ball of fire emerged from this and shot straight at the creature.
Perhaps out of reflex, but he covered her before she could see the plump body burst into shrieks. So she rolled her eyes.
"Old habits never die, right?" She told him, when the others who were about to attack them backed off.
"And the oldest die harder, my love" with the icy sword that appeared for a second in his hand, he raised a wall of ice that separated them from the enemies."
They went, briskly, to the entrance of picturesque and worn signs. At least there were nobler creatures in that place, right? Although the exterior was ruins, the interior of the cabin had a chaotic attempt at decoration.
"You're right" she said to her husband "it's cooler here."
He smiled at her as the doors creaked shut ahead of them. Taking advantage of the feeling of privacy in that reduced place, he brought her closer to him and with a tone as suggestive as his gesture, he whispered to her:
"I can show you other more... cozy places" those last words sounded like a purr.
She bit her lip.
"Do they involve cold, or heat?"
"I'll let you decide, since I'm generous."
The cabin jerked to a stop and the doors swung open.
"I'd rather be surprised" she whispered to him, and advanced, leaving him with that secret laugh and bright red gaze.
The Chupacabra's shop was a curious and scruffy place, though surprisingly clean. The strangest and most unimaginable contraptions were on exhibition, most exuding some kind of magical aura, something that Marie admired as if she were still a little girl.
"My Lord, my Prince!" The plump creature took shape near them with a black smoke "What an honor to have it in my humble...!"
Her voice trailed off as he noticed Marie's presence.
"Oh, Milady" he exclaimed with a softened tone "I could recognize you in any image but, it's the first time that I can appreciate your beauty in person!" He held up a hand and curtsied "it is a real joy to finally meet you, Lady Marie."
She was touched by the small creature's polite gesture, but before he could kiss her hand politely, Dracul stepped in front of him.
"Save yourself the cheap obeisance, little thing. We come for business."
"Magnificent!" He disappeared in a ball of smoke "Fortunately I have the best of the best that a lady could need."
"He won't have stolen it, right" Marie whispered to her husband, knowing the stories of that being.
"Don't ask a dog not to bark," he snorted.
The gremlin reappeared behind the counter with a gigantic, elongated chest.
