The sizzling of meat and the smell of it steamed through the house, the rising of the sun marking the start of the new day and the beginning of the Base's activities. Choukai was busy cooking their morning meal, and as usual, Atago was sitting with Takao, absently teasing her and trying to make her flinch from her usual tough look.
"Ah! Atago, don't touch me there!"
"Aww, but you look adorable when I do!"
Choukai could only sigh at their antics, really questioning how they were the eldest of the four of them when they acted like that. Takao was wrestling Atago off of her, trying to keep her hands from her chest, something Atago gravitated towards when messing with her.
Soft footsteps soon reached their ears, as Maya walked down the hall with a small jump in her step. Her face was as calm as ever, but her eyes looked a little weary, at least more than usual.
"Morning."
"Good morning Maya, food will be done in a bit, so go ahead and take a seat."
She nodded to Choukai's words, sitting down across from the two eldest as she waited. Atago had her eyes on her the entire time, getting off Takao as she faced the next in line.
"Maya?"
"Hm?" She met Atago's gaze, now seeing the worry in her eyes.
"Are you alright? You look troubled."
"...I thought there was an intruder last night, and I couldn't shake the feeling."
Takao sat up immediately, her eyes sharpening. "An intruder? Why didn't you get any of us?"
"I would have if I found them, but there was just...nothing."
They stared at her for a bit, sighing in sync as Atago leaned back on the floor. "You really gave us a scare there..."
"It would have been better if you woke us before hand Maya. If there was someone, it would be best to let us all know."
Maya's ears went down, and she bowed lightly. "Sorry...if that feeling returns, I'll make sure to let you know."
"Good!" Choukai's voice interrupted them, as she came over carrying two plates of food. "Just in time for this to end, since the food's done."
Takao smiled and thanked her little sister for the meal, Atago doing the same as they received their food. Choukai went and got both her and Maya's meals, setting it in front of the third sister as she began eating herself.
As per manners, they really didn't say much during the eating time, Atago sometimes trying to mess with Takao, who expertly deflected everything she did so she could continue eating unabated. Maya ate a little slower than the rest did, seemingly deep in thought over the previous night's events.
'Everyone else was asleep then, it was the perfect moment to strike, and none would be the wiser.' She eyed her three sisters, soon looking back down to her food with a small smile. 'Well, it worked out just fine.'
After the meal, Maya and the rest of her sisters all went different ways, Choukai staying behind to clean up before she would go out and do her things for the day. Maya watched as Takao finally snapped on Atago, making the second of the class run away laughing as Takao nearly decided to chase after her.
'Well, at least you realized she's leading you like that.' Maya huffed and went on her way, seeing Takao grumble before going off into town in a different direction than Atago.
Maya ran a hand through her hair, sighing as she looked out to the Ocean from the great view the homes got of it. "I wonder where that German girl is...she never did say where she was staying at."
