Madison made her way into the familiar trailer the thought of JJ sitting in jail giving her the courage to do what she normally wouldn't have. It wasn't her first run for Barry and she didn't want to jinx it by saying it was going well but so far there had been no drama and she had been able to make quite a few payments to Peterkin.
"Sweet cheeks," Barry greeted her with a lingering gaze that made her skin crawl. "You're early."
She tried to force a smile, "I have a shift in the morning and wanted to make sure I would be back in time."
Barry made his way into the bedroom leaving her in the living room, calling out to her, "I don't know why you are still working there. You know I make this worth it for you and there's no way you blew through that cash already."
"Just to keep up appearances. Don't want to give anyone a reason to ask questions," she answered and was thankful he was still in the other room to make sure her face didn't give away her lie.
He came out with a duffle bag and threw it on the coffee table, "See, this is why I like you. Always thinking ahead."
"Where to?" She motioned to the bag and Barry pulled out a burner phone and text her an address. She looked at it quickly, "This is on the mainland."
Barry tilted his head to the side, "That a problem?"
It was. She was expecting to be gone an hour, two tops, but this was easily going to take her two hours just to get there and the longer she was gone the more questions it was going to raise. "Nope, no problem. But, this is further than what I have been doing. And, I don't know the area. It's going to cost extra."
"You're negotiating with me?" Barry challenged her and for a moment she thought she pushed it too far but then he let out a bark of a laugh. "Damn, Maddie, you're going to put me out of business."
She didn't get a chance to answer when Rafe walked through the front door, clearly not expecting her to be there. "Barry, I'm out."
"Country club," Barry greeted and Madison wanted nothing more than to take the bag and just leave.
Rafe noticed Madison the second the screen door slammed behind him, "What is she doing here?"
"Nothing that concerns you," Barry waved him off and motioned to the bag. Madison understood and threw it over her shoulder. "I'll be in touch."
Rafe stepped in front of her before she could get to the door. "You can't trust her. She's a Pogue."
"And you're a Kook on the wrong side of the island," Madison stood her ground, not backing down from the heated glare she was receiving. "Wouldn't want daddy to find out what you do in your spare time." And as if to add to the effect she sniffed and rubbed her nose.
Rafe moved close enough to her that she could feel his hot breath on her face but before she could do or say anything Barry had gotten between them. "Alright, that's enough."
"Should pick your friends better Barry," Madison stared Rafe in the eyes as she spoke before side stepping him and leaving the trailer.
She got in her car and made it down the road a bit before she pulled over and grabbed her phone to text the P4L group chat.
