Chaos, it was pure chaos, the series of events that followed Topper's words. Madison felt like she was a top just balancing on the tip, spinning so fast she wasn't sure which way was up, until it slowed, and everything came crashing down around her. She was so tired of the world being ripped out from under her feet at every turn. And now, now she sat at the end of the dock, alone, and there wasn't one single person she could turn to. She hated herself, pure and simple hatred, because it was all on her, she had messed up, she had acted without thinking, and there was no one else to blame but herself.
"No, I'm going to need more than that. I need your word. Promise me you're done with him. Promise me that you'll leave here in the morning and break things off with him," Kelce brushed a piece of hair behind her ear and ran his tongue along his bottom lip.
"I promise."
Kelce searched her eyes for any indication that she was lying and even though there was still a hint of doubt in his mind he took her at her word. He had no reason not to, Madison may be a lot of things but one thing everyone knew was that she kept her promises. At least until now. "Well, alright then. Come with me."
Madison followed him down the long hall adorned with decorative artwork instead of the accustomed family pictures and there were fresh flowers displayed on each side table with not even one petal out of place. She felt more like she was at a hotel than in someone's house. A home was supposed to be warm, inviting, and yet she felt like she was going to depreciate its value just by being inside. Kelce's room was no different and definitely cleaner than she expected it to be, especially growing up with John B and JJ, but there was absolutely no personality. There wasn't one single thing in there that screamed this was his room. It was boring actually, just a simple full bed with an azure comforter, one night stand with a lamp and a charging dock for his phone, a desk that looked like it had never been used, and an old red beanbag chair in the corner that never looked more out of place.
He motioned for her to sit on the bed and she hesitated at first. When he said that he wanted her she didn't think he meant he literally wanted her right then and there. She sat nonetheless and criss crossed her legs as she chewed on the skin around her thumb. She had gotten so used to someone telling her to stop the nervous habit that she broke through the skin and started to bleed. She had gotten used to not just anyone but JJ telling her to stop. He knew her better than anyone. He would have known how uncomfortable she was, how her anxiety was building by the second, but he wasn't there and Kelce didn't notice at all.
Madison's hands began to tingle and she felt the unmistakable tightness in her chest. She had to get out of there. She shouldn't even be over on Figure Eight. She should be with JJ. She should be trying to stop him from ending up in the cell next to John B. What the fuck was she doing? She didn't belong here at all. JJ was her Clyde and she was his Bonnie, no matter what, no matter how insane his plan was, she should have been with him.
