Adrenaline was the only thing Madison was running on at this point. There was certainly no coke in the Twinkie, not that she'd be able to do it in front of the Pogues anyways, but it was the one thing she craved more than anything else in the world. Because that was the thing about drugs, they were addicting, forever chasing that alluded high as a distraction from the real world. Drugs completely take over, demanding all the control, making all the choices, and suddenly it's not the electric bill that's past due or the groceries that need to be bought, it is the few dollars in her pocket that would only buy her enough to last the weekend.

She chewed on her bottom lip as she thought back to the last time she had to fight through the addiction, when her brother and the Pogues helped her through it, and the only thing she could remember besides her being a raging bitch to them was eating sweets. She actually ate so much candy that Pope worried she'd get cavities, Kiara constantly reminded her to make sure the wrappers always ended up in the trash, and John B supplied her with more just so she would curb the attitude. A sugar rush wouldn't nearly be enough but it would be better than nothing and she couldn't exactly fuck JJ in the back of the Twinkie with everyone in the van though it had been a great distraction when it was just the two of them in the car.

JJ watched as she relentlessly shifted in her seat, crossing and uncrossing her legs, unable to sit still even if she tried as she played with the ends of her hair separating out each individual strand for something to concentrate on. It had been too long, and while by now the drug had completely left her system, he knew it was begging her for more. He was about to pull out his vape, ask if she wanted a hit, it would be nowhere near the same effect that she was looking for but hopefully it would be just enough to get her mind on something else.

He didn't get the chance to though as she crawled over him and motioned with her head for Kiara to move off the bench seat. When she complied, Madison opened it up and rummaged through the old oiled stained rags, empty containers of board wax, and a wrench she was sure would split it two if they tried to use it by how rusted it was. She didn't find what she was looking for though and when she shut the seat Kiara moved back to her spot, sharing a look with JJ a silent question on what was going on and if she was supposed to be doing anything. He answered her with a subtle shake of his head, telling her to let Madison be for the moment. He wasn't exactly sure what she was searching for but he knew that she wasn't going to find any little baggies in the Twinkie.

There were only so many places to look in the tin box that John B loved so much. The glovebox was her last hope and she crawled between the front two seats, reaching over Sarah who was in the passenger seat. They all knew what was really going on, but she was with them, essentially trapped in the van on their way to a huge ass tree in the middle of nowhere. The unexpected squeal of excitement had Sarah flinching and covering her ears as Madison held up an unopened bag of M&Ms.
