Four hours into their drive and a ferry ride later they received a call from John B that Sarah had done it, she had actually found the island room. And while Madison was still very set on taking the fight to Limbrey so to speak there was no denying that they had to turn around. JJ took over driving on the way back as Madison attempted to doze in the front seat, her head resting against the window and her legs curled up as much as they could be. It was a restless sleep, the drugs no longer in her system yet they still kept her from getting into that deep slumber her body needed. It was enough that she was able to dream though, letting her guard down just enough so that the dark thoughts were able to take over her subconscious.

Ward kept both hands in front of him, moving slowly and deliberately as if he was trying to corner a skittish wild animal that would attack at a moment's notice. "Are you really sure about this? What about your brother? I'm sure John B wouldn't want his sister and the only family he has left to end up behind bars."

She shook her head as a little laugh escaped her lips, "You really think you're going to be able to sweet talk your way out of this one? This is me you're talking to, asshole. I know the snake that you are and while you may shed your skin a snake is always a snake."

Ward was enraged that she was fighting back, that it was harder than he expected to get the gun from her, and he started to sweat not knowing how much time they had left on the timer before it would all be for nothing. They both struggled, their own demons whispering in their ears to just get it over with, pull the trigger, let whoevers body hit the floor and be taken away by the water surrounding them.

And then it happened. The gun went off and the sound resounded in Madison's ears as time froze in place. Ward stared at her, eyes wide in shock and pain, as his hand went up to put pressure on his shoulder.

"That was for my dad."

But she didn't get to just walk away from him this time because he smiled as he stood, still putting pressure on his shoulder but suddenly it wasn't Ward but Big John standing there in front of her. "Maddie bear, you're not really going to kill your old man now, are you?"

"Daddy?" She questioned, her eyes falling to her hand that had the gun raised in his direction, aiming right at his heart, like she wasn't in control of her own actions.

Big John moved his hand away from his shoulder, blood seeping into his shirt, and rolling down his arm. But it was the look in his eyes that haunted her, he wasn't disappointed, or angry, or anything that he should have been in that moment. He looked proud, that smile still on his face, the same one he gave her every time she found another clue during the hunt. "Never thought you had it in you."

"I'm sorry, I didn't-"

"What are you apologizing for?" He cut her off, taking a step closer to her, and for the first time in her life she was afraid of him. Mirroring his actions, she took a step back until her back hit the wall. "You're doing what has to be done. You're doing exactly what I would do. Go after the gold at all costs. Never let anything or anyone get in your way." His eyes flashed to the gun in her hand and then back to her face. "And tell me, what would you do if I was standing in the way of that?" He took the final step, the barrel of the gun resting against his chest, "Come on, Maddie bear, how far would you go to get what you want?"
