CHARLOTTE POV.
I walked up to me room, actually, I practically ran. I was pretty upset that Sarah would just use me like that and that I fell for it. I've been adopted for around 8 months and I haven't had any friends besides Hayes. But he was a guy and I needed a friend that was a girl. I walked into my door and shut it lightly. I sat on my bed and just thought for a minute. I was being home schooled and I had nothing to do, then a great thought came to me. I can get a job! Even though I was 15 I was pretty responsible. I grab my laptop and I go online to see if anyone needs a babysitter in the area, finally got one! She gave me her address and said to meet her and bring one of my parents.
"Dad!" I yell from my door, "Yeah what's up Char?" He said as he came half way up the stairs. "I might have a babysitting job but the lady wants to meet me and you before I can go," I said. "Okay, get your stuff ready and I will meet you in the car," He said as he went back down the stairs. He didn't seem to care.
I decided to pack my laptop and my history book just in case she wanted me to start tonight. I packed my stuff in a back pack and quickly changed into a blue dress with flowers and my white converse. "Where are you going?" I heard a voice so I turned around to see Hayes standing there. "I might have a babysitting job," I said as I walked passed him. "Oh cool, good luck! Oh and by the way Char, I really am sorry about what happened earlier," Hayes said before he started to walk to his room.
"I know," I replied before I walked down the stairs. "Char, your dad is already waiting in the car for ya, good luck!" Nash said from the kitchen. "Thanks," I replied before I took an apple and went outside and got into dads car. "So, what's the address?" Dad asked. "56 Boost Avenue," I said before I bit into my apple.
It took us only 10 minutes to find because the house was only walking distance away. "This is it," I said as I got out of the car. Ding Dong, Ding Dong. I rang the doorbell. The door opened and I saw a teenage boy standing there. "Hi, I'm um here to..." I started to say before a lady said as she walked up behind the boy. "You must be Charlotte, come in," She said as I walked past the boy.
He just looked at me with no emotion on his face which was kinda creepy, so I just looked down. "So, is this your dad?" The lady asked as she bought lemonade into her living room, "Ah yes," I replied. "I'm Matt," Dad said as he shook the lady's hand. "Well, I was wondering if you could babysit regularly, you see I always have to work and my husband is always travelling for work. Have you had experience before?" The lady asked. "Well, this would be my first real babysitting job, but I user babysit my little brother all the time," I said. I saw dads face turn in the corner of my eye and look at me. "Well, can you possible start today, like right now? Because I have to leave in like 5 minutes..." She started to say before I cut her off. "It's fine, really, I would love too,"
5 minutes later dad left, I told him that I would call him when I was finish on their home phone. After dad left the lady, who told me her name was Katrina, introduced me to her daughter Rosie who was only 8 months old. Katrina told me everything to do, at this time it was around 2:00. "So if there are any problems please call me or my husband on any numbers that are on the kitchen bench, thank you so much Charlotte! Oh also my son is up in his room if you need help with anything, his name is Joel," She said as she grabbed her bag and started to walk towards the door.
"Okay, you should be back around 9?" I asked. "If I am on time yes, good luck!" She said before she shut the door. I was holding Rosie in my hands, what do I do with a 8 moth year old baby? I read all the 'instructions' that Katrina left on the table. It said that her nap time was at 2:45-4:30. So I decided to read her some books and play with her upstairs until she was tired. "Lets go read some books!" I said in a childish voice. I walked upstairs with the instructions in my right hand with my bag that I was still holding and Rosie in the left who was holding her bottle.
I finally got up all of the stairs and still no sign of that weird boy who answered the door, Joel. He was very different. His bright blue eyes showed off how blonde his hair was, he looked like he was older than me but I couldn't really tell. I found Rosie's room and I put her on the floor. I put my self on her chair that was beside her crib, she had the most beautiful eyes, they were blue and green. I grabbed a couple of books from her self and sat on the floor beside her facing away from the door.
I started to read her a book while she sat in my lap. She started to get a bit fussy and I looked at the time to realise that it was only 2:30. 15 minutes early won't hurt. I picked her up and quickly changed her diaper and change her clothes to a new onsie that was plain pink. I put her in her crib and kissed her forehead but she still wouldn't go to sleep so I started to sing baby songs to her. Before I knew she was asleep. I quickly grabbed my bag and her dirty bottle and tiptoed backwards so I wouldn't wake her up, I shut the door and I turned around.
I started to screen but he put his hand over my mouth stopping me to make any noises. "Shhhh," He said trying to calm me. "You will wake her up," He said as he pulled his hand away from my mouth. I picked up the bag that I dropped and I went to pick up the bottle when he grabbed it. "Thanks," I said as I took it from his hand. "Sorry if I scared you," He said as we still stood outside of Rosie's room. "It's okay," I replied trying not to make eye-contact with him.
"I'm Joel by the way," He said as he started to walk downstairs and me following. "I'm Charlotte," I said my name and he turned around almost immediately and then looked back the other way. "So why aren't you babysitting?" I asked as I got to the kitchen and started to clean Rosie's bottle. "Because she doesn't trust me," He said as he sat on the bench direct from me. "Who? Katrina?" I asked. "Yeah," He replied. "But she is your mom," I said. "Step, she married my dad about 2 and a half years ago when I was 13," "Oh, so your 15?" I asked as I turned the tap off. "No, 16. It was my birthday like 3 months ago," "Right," I said as I started to dry the bottle. "I bet you have the perfect life," He said as he looked up from the table and looked at me.
"Not even," I replied as I felt my face burning up with anger. "How? Didn't get that phone that you wanted?" He asked starting to get a smirk. "No, I just don't want to talk about it," I said as I put the bottle down and grabbed my laptop from my bag and sat on the couch. "Look, I'm sorry, I don't know what your life is like," Joel said as he sat directly next to me on the couch, his arm was touching mine. "yeah, you don't," I said as I kept looking at my laptop. "Then tell me about it," He said looking at me, I turned my head and looked at him. "You don't care," I said still looking at him. "I do," He replied ever so calmly. "Fine," I replied.
