We met the Grimm head on as they poured from the tunnel. I took down three Beowulf's with my guns before I changed them to swords and engaged with an Ursa. I dispatched it with three strikes to the neck and a shot to the back of the head, just in time to block the rolling attack of a Boarbutusk. I soon found myself back to back with Ruby. Oris had taken to the air and was engaging the flying Grimm in a impressive aerial display.

"How many you on?" I asked over my shoulder to Ruby.
"Seven, no wait, eight," she responded after firing off a shot. "How about you?"
"Six," I said as I knocked the Boarbutusk on its side and stuck it in its belly.
"Reward for most kills?" Ruby asked.
"How about loser pays for a dinner?" I asked jokingly.
"Deal," she replied and I could almost feel her smile. May the best hunter win.

Third person POV

Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury stood on a nearby roof top watching the battle with great interest.

"What happened? The train wasn't supposed to run for another week," Emerald said with wide eyes.
"Guess Roman felt a change of plan was necessary," Mercury said with a mocking grin.
"What do we do?" Emerald asked, turning to Cinder.

Cinder scanned the battle until she saw her mark. Ehwaz was fighting back to back with a girl in a red cape. He was showing impressive skill with his technique, switching from guns to swords in fluid movements with each shot and slash of his twin weapons.

"Cinder?"

Cinder turned to see Emerald looking at her for instruction. She smiled coldly.

"We adapt," Cinder stated before jumping off the roof and into the fray below, glass scimitars already forming in her hands. Emerald and Mercury exchanged a look before following their leader.

Ehwaz's POV

Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen! I had to be ahead now.

"I'm on fifteen! How many are you on now?" I said over my shoulder.
"I am just getting started," said a cold voice. I spared a glance behind me and found I was no longer back to back with Ruby, but with Cinder, who was looking right back at me.

This distraction almost cost me as a Beowulf claw came dangerously close to my face. I severed its arm and shot it in the face in retaliation.

"Do you remember our deal?" Cinder asked from behind me.
"Dinner?" I asked, mind immediately going back to my bet with Ruby.
"Only if you are buying," Cinder said, not missing a beat.
"Only if you win!" I responded, not missing a beat either. Now I had to win. My pride could stand buying dinner for Ruby, but I would rather kiss a Beowulf than ever buy Cinder dinner.

An Alpha Beowulf charged in to meet my blades, but was taken down in a spray of bullets. I looked to my left and saw the shooters were none other than those damn tin cans, six Atlesian Knights armed with machine rifles. No fair! Now I was going to be really behind! I switched to my guns and began to fire ahead of each Atlesian Knight before they shot their mark. I figured they wouldn't mind me stealing their kills.

A short and bloody while later...

I stood leaning against a massive Ursa corpse that was my last kill. I observed the street-turned-battlefield and saw Professor Goodwitch repairing the hole the train had created with her semblance. In a few moments, not even a crack could be seen to tell the tale of the massive hole that once occupied that space.

"Wow," I breathed with great impression at seeing this display.
"Wow, indeed," I heard Ruby say from my left. I turned to see her rubbing her scythe blade off with the hem of her cape.
"Final count," she said finishing her cleaning and collapsing her scythe with a flourish, "Forty-seven."
"Mm. Not bad," I responded casually as I made a show of cleaning my fingernails. "I myself am sitting on forty-eight."

Suddenly, an arrow shot out of nowhere and struck the Ursa I was leaning against right in the head. I expected to see Kuana, but instead I saw Cinder approach sword-bow in hand.

"Forty-nine," she said with a dark smile.
"He was already dead," I pointed out accusingly.
"He twitched," she said with a shrug.
"He was twitching," I said as I kicked the head and sent it rolling, "Because I severed his nervous system!"
"Ehwaz! Ruby!" Yang shouted and waved us over.
"I guess I will see you later," Cinder said as she pushed on my shoulder almost playfully as she walked by.

I ignored this and walked with Ruby to our teams. I glanced back over my shoulder and saw Cinder walk back to her teammates. What was her game?

"Who is she?" Ruby asked me with a bit of edge in her voice. I looked at her and could see a little jealousy lingering in the corners of her eyes. It made her look even cuter somehow.
"Remember the night at the CCT?" I asked near a whisper.
"Yeah..." Ruby answered with a blush.
"Remember the masked woman?" I continued.
"Wait," Ruby said as she looked back, her blush and jealousy now replaced with suspicion and anxiety, "That's her?!"
"Shshshhhh!" I hissed at her and glanced behind me. Cinder and her team were to far away to hear us now, so I continued, "I pretty sure she is."
"Then we need to tell Ozpin or Ironwood or-?!" I clamped my had over mouth.
"Not yet," I whispered, "Remember what Ironwood said? It could be anyone. We need proof. Yes, she could be connected with Torchwick, the robberies, the White Fang, all of it. But we just can't accuse her with no proof."
"Mhhmmph," Ruby said. I took my hand off her mouth. "So what do we do then?"
"I've got an idea," I said as we approached the others, "I'll tell you later."
"At dinner?" she asked slyly.
"That's right, you owe me a dinner huh?" I smiled and reached for my scroll, "About what ti-?"

I felt my coat and then pants pockets. Where the hell was my scroll?!

Third person POV

"Look what I got," Emerald sang as Cinder approached.
"What," Cinder responded irritably.
"Everything we need to know about him and his team," Emerald explained as she tossed a scroll to Cinder. Cinder opened it and saw Ehwaz's emblem of a fox tail wrapped around a tree. Now what significance did that hold?

"Good work," Cinder said with a calculating smile, "Good work indeed."
