The next day passed rather quickly. My team was in a frenzy, trying to find, or make something to wear to the dance.
Kuana and Lena were arguing about their clothing.
"It shows to much skin! You are a boy!"
"It's fine! I will turn heads. Let the ladies see what they can't have."
"It's not appropriate for a dance."
"I think you're just jealous!"
"In your dreams."I listened, half-consciously to the argument. I was laying on my bed, staring at the picture Ruby on my scroll. She was standing in a cute pose, her scythe held behind her.
I smiled at the picture. I wonder what she would wear tonight...
"And what are you doing?"
I quickly closed my scroll and looked up to see Oris, laying on her stomach on her bed. She was looking at me with a mocking grin.
"So, that's her huh?" she mockingly asked. "That's the girl you like? Ooh, she is cute!"
She began pursuing her lips and kissing the air.I chucked my pillow at her.
"You want to go out the window again?" I threatened. She continued to smile mockingly at me.
"Alright everyone!" said Lena, "We have a hour before the dance! The girls will change first. So, Kuana, you and Ehwaz wait outside. We will call you in when we are done."
Kuana and I walked into the hallway and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited.
Third person POV
Emerald was walking down the hallways of the dorms when she saw Ehwaz. He was waiting outside a dorm door with another guy, this one in red ninja-like clothing. They must be waiting for their dates.
"I want you to still get close to Ehwaz, but try to get close to Ruby as well."
Emerald smiled. "Looks like I can kill two birds with one stone," she thought. She approached Ehwaz and the ninja.
"Hey Ehwaz," Emerald said.
Ehwaz turned around. "Oh, hi."
He looked at her uncertainly. He recognized her, but he didn't know her name."We bumped into each other the other day. I'm Emerald," she said extending her hand.
"Uh, I think you already know my name..." said Ehwaz as he shook her hand hesitantly.
Emerald smiled warmly as she used her semblance and reached for his inside coat pocket for his wallet. Ehwaz, however, moved his coat back with his left hand. Emerald missed her chance.
"So, you waiting for your dates?" Emerald asked.
"You could say that," said the ninja.
"Mind if I talk to them?" Emerald asked as she began opening the door."No no no no don't-!" Ehwaz exclaimed. But it was to late.
Emerald opened the door and book flew out and hit her right between the eyes. Emerald collapsed against the opposite wall. She began to see little miniature Nevermores flying around her head.
"That happens," Ehwaz said as he helped her up, "When you peek in on Oris. Ladies man Kuana, over here made that mistake once."
"It was an accident!" said Kuana.
"Yeah," retorted Ehwaz, "Completely accidental that you were pressed flat up against her door."
"Shut up..." the Kuana, "Or do you want your tail on fire again?"Emerald had recovered. So this was his team? And she thought Mercury was bad.
"So," Emerald said, "Are you going to the dance with anyone?"
Ehwaz smiled, "In a sense.""Alright you perverts!" said a voice from inside the dorm, "You can come in now."
The door opened. Lena led the way, in a stunning dark blue dress with baby blue streaks running horizontally down the dress, and sparkles all over the dress. When she walked, the dress seemed to ripple, like waves on a sunny day. Oris came next, her dress similar to Lena's, except it was white with light grey streaks. It resembled snow on a windy day.
Kuana's jaw dropped, Ehwaz stood there, silently appreciating the beauty of the dresses. Emerald stood there, jealousy forming in her stomach. She knew she should have stole something more like that.
"Well, our turn," said Ehwaz and pulled the drooling Kuana into the room, and shut the door.
Ehwaz's POV
It was the hour of the dance. My team had already left, and I stayed behind. I made last minute preparations for my suit. I had made it several years earlier, and I was just adjusting the measurements. I finally pulled on my coat and looked into the mirror.
I wore dark brown pants, a white dress shirt, a dark brown vest, and a dark green tie. My coat was a dark green with what appeared to be roots spiderwebbing all around it. I still wore my dirt brown boots, but other than that, I thought I looked good.
I looked over at my hat. Should I take it? No. Everyone already knew I was a Faunus. No use hiding it.
I strapped on my gun belt, and put a green sash on to hide them. I turned and walked out of the dorm and to the dance hall.
Later at the dance hall.
When I arrived, all the dudes looked the same. All of them wore identical tuxedos, absolutely no sense of style.
The girls, on the other hand, wore colorful and stunning dresses.I immediately spotted Ruby at the punch table, and Jaune was with her. They were standing awkwardly, looking at the people dancing.
They... didn't come together did they?
No. Jaune started to cross the dance floor, probably going after Pyrrha, who was heading up the stairs.I took a deep breath. Here we go.
I walked into the hall, and everyone looked at me. I guess I stood out with my clothing compared to all the tux's. I continued to walk to the punch table, and the crowd parted, almost like in a fairytale story.
Ruby looked up and saw me. Her face was awestruck and full of blush. She was wearing a cute red and black knee length dress, with loose, black string cross lacing between her breasts. She looked beautiful.
I walked up to her and extended my hand. "My I have this dance, Miss Rose?" I asked.
Ruby dumbly nodded and took my hand. She set her cup on the table and followed me to the middle of the dance floor.
A slow romantic song began to play. I took Ruby's waist and her hand, and began to dance. My eyes locked with Ruby's, and we didn't break the connection. Not when everyone cleared a circle around us. Not even when a spot light began following us. We never broke the connection.
We danced a waltz through the entire song. And at the climax, Ruby closed her eyes, and leaned into me. I did the same. We held the kiss until the song ended and we parted.
The hall erupted in applause and whistles. Ruby and I looked around. Everyone was applauding us. Some even had their scrolls out, probably recording it.
Both Ruby's and my face turned red and we walked towards the exit.
Yang shot me a wink and a thumbs up.
We reached the exit and stood there, trying to process what happened. Neither of us said anything.
Then I saw a shadow hopping across the rooftops. Ruby saw it to. I pulled out my guns and she kicked off her heels and pulled her scythe out of her- wait, where did she pull it out from? Did she hide it under her-? Forget it.
We ran into the night, pursuing the shadow.
