"Great, we just had to be dealing with the most loyal criminals ever," Loriatte exclaimed in annoyance after they jumped into Zayden's car.
"On the bright side, at least there are sixty less criminals out on the streets," Zayden shrugged, strapping on his seatbelt before beginning the drive back to his penthouse.
They had just come from questioning the criminals who all refused to spill a single piece of information on who their boss was and what they knew about the disappearance of Shane Mason, no matter how much the police threatened or promised to reduce their sentences.
"Still sucks that all this was for nothing, now they really know that we're onto them," she muttered as she looked out at the passing cars and buildings.
Zayden hummed in agreement. "Not to mention we busted their whole operation, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried something again, we need to be careful from now on so no leaving my sight for anything, understood?"
Loriatte rolled her eyes, "Yeah I hear you, sir."
There was no use arguing with him about her freedom because he was right, there was a reason why she was under federal protection after all, so it wouldn't make sense for her to wander about in public whenever she felt like it.
Plus, we all know where not listening to Zayden got Loriatte in the past.
"Good," he nodded, keeping his eyes on the road.
"So, what do you think of our new teammate?" Loriatte asked with curiosity, wanting to know Zayden's opinion of the hotshot FBI agent.
That or also the fact that she was just nosy and wanted to know the beef Zayden had with Doug.
Zayden raised an eyebrow, stealing a glance at her before focusing his attention back on the road again. "Why? Do you like him or something?"
"I asked first."
"My question is more important," he rebutted with furrowed eyebrows.
"Just answer the question Zayden," she rolled her eyes at him.
Zayden took a moment to answer, "he's always been an ass, so nothing new," he mumbled after a while.
"Always?" She wondered, her curious eyes trained on his side profile.
With his right hand on the wheel, he used the other to scratch the back of his neck before letting his hand fall on his thigh.
"Doug and I went to the same college and grew closer at the police academy, dude's natural instinct has always been to be an asshole."
"So, why are you not friends now?" She wondered.
Zayden sighed, "creative differences I guess, he wanted to be an FBI and I wanted to stay with my brother, we were okay at first, but he became an even bigger asshole when he joined the bureau."
"Are you saying that because he really is an asshole or because you hate the FBI?" She questioned with a smirk.
Zayden shrugged. "Both? I don't know, it doesn't matter- I don't like him."
"So if I joined the FBI, you'd start hating me too?"
"Well hate is a strong word- besides, I think there's a certain intellectual requirement to be able to join the FBI," he sassed with a smirk.
Loriatte gasped, "you did not-"
"Oh we're here!" He announced, stopping her from arguing with him about what he said.
