Zayden slid a sheet of paper over to Loriatte and watched her thick eyebrows cross as she read the contents.
"What? I don't understand, who are these people?" She asked briefly looking up at him and then back down to the paper.
Zayden stole a quick glance at her before clearing his throat then revealthe details of what he found, "after tracing the license plate number, I found out that the van belongs to Steven Mason, who was Mowry Mason's deceased son."
"Mason..." She mumbled as her frown deepened, the name sounding very familiar to her.
Zayden slid her an ID-sized photo of someone who was all too familiar to her, "And this is Mowry Mason's father-"
"Shane!" Her boss's name left her mouth in a surprised gasp.
"Shane Mason," Zayden nodded in confirmation with his lips in a thin line, "and the van was never reported as stolen so there goes that theory."
Loriatte cringed at the familiar greasy face of her boss, "euk, even his photo gives me the creeps."
"That's not a nice thing to say about a lost person," Zayden tsked.
"So can we go?" Loriatte asked.
"Go where?" He raised a questioning eyebrow.
"Oh my gosh, to investigate, do I have to spell out your whole job for you sir?" With an alluring smirk, she tilted her head then added, "We can't skip questioning Mowry Mason. His father is missing, and his deceased son's van was spotted at a potential crime scene. He's bound to have some information that would be of use to us, he's what you police people call 'a person of interest' no?"
Zayden sighed with a single nod, "right, well, to the Masons!" he declared then got up, grabbing his leather coat from the hanger and swinging it over his right shoulder.
"Also I have a lot of questions about this case," Loriatte stated, following after him after grabbing a jacket for herself.
"Don't," was his reply as he locked the door, then led the way to the elevator.
She struggled to keep up with his large steps, as if he knew she was about to start something and wanted to get away from her.
"It's a free country, a free world," she crossed her arms, giving him a pointed look after she caught up with him just as the elevator doors slid open and he let her step in first.
He rolled his eyes and decided to just ignore her.
"This entire thing is a bit unusual, like for example, I'm here."
"Wow, how freaky."
"I'm serious, aren't you wondering why you don't have a team for this investigation in the entire big ass force you work for? Like seriously, not even one person at your force is helping you, except for your brother, I mean it's so bad that you had to get help from a journalist," she said with raised eyebrows, she was asking all the questions she knew he was trying not to think about.
"I'm no detective or anything but I've watched enough movies to know that you should have a team with you, like a badass detective with a dark past, some weirdo who's good with guns, a geek who's good with hacking and a hot vigilante you convinced to join the team at the last minute, and at first you won't get along with them but by the end of the movie, they'll be your family."
"Okay Vin Diesel," Zayden scoffed, mindlessly watching the numbers above the elevator doors countdown as they descended.
"Seriously, I'm not supposed to be here. As someone under federal protection, I should be relaxing at your nice as shit apartment, far away from the very danger that I'm following you into."
