With two boxes of pizza, one vegan and the other non-vegan, and a bottle of red wine in hand, Loriatte pressed the button for the twelfth floor.
She patiently waited while humming a random tune as she stood in the elevator and ascended to her intended floor.
After the doors opened with that familiar loud 'ding', she walked out and headed towards the apartment she knew so well.
She knocked a few times on the worn out door.
"Oh, goodies!" Kris squealed after opening the door, taking the bottle of wine from her and walking back into her apartment with Loriatte following behind after shutting the door behind them.
"Oh hey Loriatte, great to see ya! You good? Cool, yeah me too!" Loriatte said as she followed after her, voice filled with sarcasm.
Kris sheepishly giggled, setting down the bottle of wine and walking over to her small kitchen to retrieve two wine glasses.
"Oh don't be like that, you know I'm always happy to see you," Kris said as she handed her a glass, "but I'm happier for wine and pizza."
"Can't blame you," Loriatte shrugged, holding up her glass for Kris to pour some of the wine into.
The girls raised their glasses in a toasting gesture before taking a sip from the sweet grape-flavored wine.
Loriatte opened the boxes of pizza and grabbed the first slice, and Kris couldn't help but hum in appreciation of the delicious aroma before even biting into her slice, seeing that her friend was considerate enough to buy her favourite topping.
They engaged in small conversations and savored each other's company as they enjoyed their food, talking about any and everything.
One would say that their friendship was an odd one because of the fourteen-year age gap between the two, but that gap somehow added to their friendship because over the years they both learned so much from each other, still were.
Back in her college years, Loriatte drowned herself in reading history books at the library everyday after her morning classes.
Being a new immigrant without any friends or social life, the library was her only refuge from loneliness and feeling like an outsider. Books had always been her source of solace, especially history books.
Kris, the librarian at that time, took notice of the dark-skinned girl's pattern of consistently sitting at the same table and poring over the same genre of books. So, she went ahead and made an extra effort to find a book similar to the ones she always saw the girl reading, believing that it would do Loriatte some good to have some variety but still in the same category of books the girl alway read.
"Here," she had said as she placed down the book in front of her, chewing loudly on her blueberry bubblegum.
Loriatte picked up the book, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion wondering why the weird Librarian was talking to her. "Journalists in History?" she snorted to herself, wondering why she would suggest such a dull read. Besides, she was a Forensic Science major, not a journalist.
Kris shrugged her shoulders, "I don't even know why I picked it to be honest, but hey you never know, you might find some sort of enlightenment or something."
"Okay...sure? Do they allow you to dress like that while working here?" Loriatte couldn't help but ask about her outfit.
The woman wore a bright yellow, skintight mini-skirt that perfectly matched her yellow bralette, which was visible through her white see-through top, her bleach blonde hair was in tight curls as it fell past her shoulders, and on her feet were yellow six inch stilettos that clicked and clacked with every step she took. Her outfit was just so loud and out there, quiet impossible to ignore.
