Chapter 17: Sudden Opportunity

Once again, you found yourself near the exit of the cave. Papyrus and Sans were further inside the cave… meaning it was an opportune time to escape. Should you risk it? They could come back any minute, would you even have enough time to find help somewhere? Where could you even get help? You decided to ponder on that before actually escaping quite yet, you needed to know where you were trying to go before you even attempted to swim away. You could try catching one of your co-workers attention when they were out and about but would they accept you as you are now? You're not too sure… they would definitely be scared of you since you're a "deadly" Siren now. Most of the people out and about now probably wouldn't recognize you since they hadn't even met you.

Wait! What about that native village? The children didn't seem too phased when Sans and Papyrus were around and the people had seen you in there… Maybe they could help? How though? You couldn't exactly communicate what you wanted to them… darn two options… ugh this was stressful. "Heya there my lil' gemstone, watcha doin't there?" Your eyes instantly snapped onto Sans, his usual wide smile on his skull. Had he seen you floating around while being in your own thoughts!? Luckily he couldn't read them because if he could, you would be instantly screwed. "Just thinking… is all" You said truthfully, you weren't gonna say what you were actually thinking about though, that would be stupid. "Pondering about how good of a mate I would be?" Your eyes instantly rolled at that. "In your dreams, numbskull" You quipped as you tried to swim past him so you could go further into the cave but Sans blocked your way intentionally. "I'll make it into reality lil' gemstone" And before you could scoff or do anything like that, Sans quickly gave you a peck on your cheek, successfully stunning you. At least he didn't go for your lips this time… you scowled at him all the same.

"SANS! Y/N! THERE THE BOTH OF YOU ARE!" Papyrus's voice exclaimed with glee from behind Sans. You peeked your head around Sans, you saw Papyrus swim towards the both of you with excitement. You Wonder why he was so happy? Did something good happen? You didn't need to wait for long however when he shot past his brother and spun you around for some odd reason. You could easily catch up to his odd spinning dance, the both of you were built for speed after all while Sans was the stronger out of the two of you… Anywho, your spinning came to an abrupt stop when Sans grabbed you and dragged you towards himself, the back of your head hitting his ribcage. Unbeknownst to you, Sans gave his brother a smile but the hold he had on you sent the message clearly, you were his.

"Was there somethin' you wanted Paps?" Sans didn't like it how easily you could catch up to his brother's quick movements. He didn't like how much it looked like a… courting dance and he knew it wasn't. His brother would never take you away from him, Papyrus didn't have those feelings for you but when he saw you spinning around with his brother… he pictured you dancing with another Siren, he couldn't allow that. "I WAS CLEANING THE DEN UNTIL I GOT THE MOST MARVELOUS IDEA!" Of course his brother held no grudge against his actions, as happy as ever. You managed to wriggle yourself out of Sans's grip, not that it was surprising, he had kept it loose. "Oh really? What has the great Papyrus thought of now?" You smiled, your relationship with Papyrus had gone back to normal but you were still wary of Sans… well he didn't want your relationship to go back to normal, he wanted to change it. Change it to something more romantic than it had been, he wanted for you to love him and not simply liking him as a friend. Though that was easier said than done seeing as you were quite stubborn to accept him as your mate.

"WE SHOULD TEACH YOU HOW TO HUNT! IT HAS BEEN LONG OVERDUE!" At that your eyes shone at the idea… didn't you like the food he brought you? Surely you did since you did eat it even if you did discard most of the good parts… maybe now you would be able to catch faster prey he couldn't out speed.

Sans watched you and his brother work together in perfect synchronization, matching his brother's speeds without any problems. He could only watch from the sidelines, the prey being too fast for him to even try to catch, instead he watched out for anything or anyone that could be a threat.

"WOWIE! YOU CERTAINLY ADAPTED QUICK! WHY MIGHT I SAY YOU MIGHT BE FASTER THAN ME SOMEDAY!" You chuckled at that, Sans was getting somewhat jealous… he wished he could join you but he would just end up not catching anything and use up energy. "Thanks, Papyrus… though wouldn't it be more effective if let's say… Sans baited the fish towards us?" At that Sans perked up and his brother tilted his head in confusion. "BAIT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I DO NOT THINK THE FISH FIND MY BROTHER TO BE A GOOD SNACK" That was obvious, no fish would ever dare approach him so why would you suggest him being bait? Maybe you thought he was a fine snack and was indirectly flirting with him… heh.

"Oh not that kind of bait, I mean he could scare them towards us like an ambush, easier to catch surprised fish after all" Why did you have to crush his fantasies like that? Just flirt with him already! He mentally sighed… but then he realized that you were trying to make him a part of the hunting… you had found a way for him to be fully part of the hunt instead of just floating aimlessly around to check for dangers. Once again you managed to accommodate his slow build. "THAT… I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT! WOWIE! WE SHALL TRY THAT NEXT TIME, RIGHT SANS?" At that he flinched when he heard his name, he had been a bit distracted by his thoughts. "Can't promise I won't take a few naps along the way" He joked and he could see a small smile at the corner of your lips as his brother scolded him about not napping during hunts.

You were slowly but surely becoming more and more a part of their pod.

You woke up inside the nest as usual, if you didn't fall asleep in the nest like you previously tried to do on multiple occasions, Sans or Papyrus would pick you up from wherever you slept and bring you back to the nest regardless if you wanted it or not. This time however, you went to bed inside the nest by yourself, might as well when you just end up there anyway. However this time you woke up to something horrifying, You were snuggled right up to Sans, one of his arms tucked around you as his available hand was touching your chest, his claws dangerously close to your heart… You quickly but carefully got out of his grasp, he grumbled angrily at the empty space you left. Fortunately he was quite the heavy sleeper so he didn't wake up from your withdrawal. You quietly swam away.

You don't know how long it has been since your transformation but you know for sure it has been way too long but because of you not trying to escape the whole time, the both of them had a tendency to let you roam wherever. Not outside the cave however because of the supposed danger other Sirens had if they saw a half human half siren around. You stopped swimming when you saw a sleeping Papyrus, usually he was the one who was up the earliest which means… Now was the best time to take your escape plan into action. You had secretly gotten yourself acquainted with the waterscape layout and you had a good idea of where humans who could help you were… Your old route trails you did when working together with your former co-workers, you had recognised a few landmarks when you sneakily surfaced without Sans and Papyrus knowing. You had seen humans, most likely researchers when you peeked your head up from the dark blue waters but decided against making contact… until now that is. You had thought of a third option, If they didn't accept you as you were now then you just had to flee to warmer waters where Sans and Papyrus couldn't follow.

You sped out of the cave, this was your moment, you had to act fast!
